M: You’ll carry the Walther.....unless of course you’d prefer to go back to standard intelligence duties.
BOND: No sir, I would not.
M: Then from now on you carry a different gun, show him armorer.
MAJOR BOOTHROYD: (shows James the new pistol) Walther PPK 7.65 millimeter with a delivery like a brick through a plate-glass window, it takes a Brausch silencer with very little reduction in muzzle velocity...the American CIA swear by them.
I'll agree with disco here 100%.
1911 are "garage queens" :uts on flak jacket::
How many rounds through it? My SW 1911 is all sorts of sloppy after 40K rounds. Accuracy has fallen off. Parts needed to be replaced, trigger jobs redone. My customs still lock up almost as tight as they day I got them and accuracy is great. 2lb trigger is still a good as day 1
Thats the difference between good and great 1911s
While I'll be first to say the design is flawed
What do you think is the most overrated handgun model?
I found this question on another board and I thought I post it here
To me, that giant HK ninja weapon. Lots of money for a little cool factor.
I'll drive German cars all day long. Better than any Japanese pos I've ever been in (and 99% of American vehicles too!) and that coming from a Ford Truck owner.Anything German.
Kind of like their cars.
Overpriced and overrated
False.er, how about ANYTHING made by Taurus?
The Five-Seven has only had a little while to be overly rated. The 1911 has been over-rated for decades... Seems like it will require some time to catch up - during which, they will stop making/pimping it...The list begins and ends with the FN Five-seveN.
False.
I have a Taurus 24/7 pro compact and a PT1911 that are both phenomenal handguns.

#3.For old guns the 1911.
For new guns the M&P series.
What are your experiances with glocks and .45 GAP?
Don't know about Glocks, but when I was at Horton we had a few XDs still left in stock in .45 GAP. We couldn't GIVE them away. Usual response was a laugh and a "You're kidding, right?"
Nah, I've met very few I didn't like... Just not forged by the gods as many would have you believe...I must have shot the only 1911s in the world that never had any problems. I've shot thousands of rounds through colts and SW, and never had any issues.

1911
It's not that they're buggy, it's that the design is old. It doesn't take into account the same things or make the same assumptions that a modern design does. They need to be made right and cared for right, which today, really makes them a specialists or an aficionado's weapon. If you expect to just unbox and shoot a production 1911 forever, the chances of a problem are higher than with a modern design.
Add to that the prevalence of badly made ones, the old-school capacity and heavy weight, and I understand why they could be seen as overrated.
19 posts in and no one has mentioned the 50 AE Deagle?
You guys are slippin'...
Not in my experience. They are perhaps more likely to have problems out of the box (e.g., poorly tensioned extractors) than more modern designs, but once fixed are generally pretty reliable if they are from a high quality manufacturer.Does a 1911 have to be cleaned/maintained/overhauled anymore then other pistols?
1911s built during WWII were built with the US Army's QA inspectors in attendance, which is more than can be said of most commercial handgun manufacturers today. In this day and age with the new materials they are using I’d assume they would be more reliable then they ever were in the past.
