Update!
Good news first... (not that there is really any bad news)
Kim is doing GREAT! The operation was a success!
Her doctor said that everything went as expected, he is fairly confident that he was able to get the entire tumor out, and there were no complications!
What a LONG day! Firs of all, neither of us could sleep last night. So we ended up staying up late and drinking. We didn't actually fall asleep until sometime around 2am. Our day started around 7am getting up and getting ready to get to the hospital, get the dog off to puppy school, getting her things together etc.
Her surgery was scheduled for 1:30pm and we were told to be there 2 hours prior. So like good kids, we got to the hospital around 11am, and she went through the admitting process. Neither of us had had anything to eat, her because she wasn't allowed, and me because I would feel like a complete ASS if I ate in front of her.
After admitting, we were brought over to a room that has TV's, books to read, magazines, computers with internet access (they were always taken) free coffee, and snacks. We waited, and waited, and waited, then we waited some more. The finally called us in to go down to pre-op, and then we waited some more.
By the time the finally took her into the OR, it was almost 4pm. I went and was finally able to get something to eat. After I stuffed some food down my throat, and went for a little walk, I went back to the waiting room, and asked if there was any progress. At 5pm they were still a few minutes away from actually making the incision.
At 7 I checked again, and they said that they had just completed the procedure, and that the doctor would either come up to talk to me, or that they would let me know what phone to pick up for him to talk to me. About 10 minutes later, my cell phone rang, and it was the doctor. He told me that everything was fine, and that she was awake and moving.
After making my 10,000 phone calls I went up to the ICU to see her. She was groggy of course, but opened here eyes, and smiled at me. We didn't stay very long, because she was in and out of it, and knew that she needed to sleep. Her mother and father were with me, and that helped my sanity for sure! As we were leaving we took turns kissing her on the cheek, and her mom started to giggle when I was kissing her.
Apparently, as I kissed her and whispered to her that I loved her (even though she was out) her heart rate started to go up. It made her mom laugh, and let her know that her baby was going to be all right.
We came back to my house, and they dropped me off. I climbed into my truck and made my way over to my mom's house who picked up my dog for me today at puppy school. Apparently Sadie has been harassing my mom's birds and cat all evening long. So, she's passed out at my feet, as I write to let you all know the good news.
I sit here tonight, tired from a long day. I am drinking a beer, which I raise to all of you. You people are THE BEST!
All the well wishes, prayers gestures, and offers for help in our time of need give me much hope in the world we live in. Many of you (other than talking online) are complete strangers, yet you have all come together to help us through our time of need!
THAT my friends is what makes NES a truly special place. One that I am happy to call my home, and folks that I am PROUD to call my FAMILY!
I MEAN THAT!
Thank you all again, I need to go spend some time with my face under open beers!
Thanks again for all the love and support. Know that it is right back at ya!
Adam
