What is your main SHTF (Apocolypse) gun/plan?

OP as a good test for yourself, not knowing what shape you’re in or your age, have someone drive your 12Ga to the range and wait for you. Then take your 70lb pack just the way it’s set up now, and hump it 15 miles to said range. No threats along the way, not a forced march pace, just an easy walk with it for the 15m.

Once you arrive at the range you’re allowed one swig of water (need to ration it with that kit) and then fire 4 sets of 50rds with your shotgun for a total of 200rds in a 30min time window.

I’d guess by that night you’ll be making better plans.

Stress shoots taught me alot about myself when the army started doing them. I learned that in a real fight my marksmanship skills would be a fraction of what they are when rested.......and that I needed to get in better shape. LOL

Very true. I'll play along with the OP's premise. A shotgun as primary SHTF weapon is a joke. In addition to a MBR you will need the ability to set up defense in depth which might hypothetically include a complete video/night surveillance system, tripwire guns, remote controlled rifles firing on fixed lines, improvised incendiary grenades and launchers. The possibilities are unlimited, better have a basement full of miscellaneous parts.

This apocalypse porn stuff is entertaining.

I can’t agree with this. It’s not a matter of weight so much as mental and physical conditioning. I spent several yrs in a Ranger Battalion and I was considered on the average to skinny side (at the time I was 6’ and bounced between 165-170lbs).

I know many guys that’re over 200lbs who are absolute PT animals and could run circles around people, they just have zero quit in them mentally.

I was watching the new show Project Blue Book on the History channel. In a recent episode of Project Blue Book there is constant fear of a nuclear war with Russia. So people go to a local mom and pop hardware store and order a bomb shelter kit. When it is assembled in their back yard it is a what we would today consider a wooden shed for storing your lawn mower.

I just find it hard to believe people would think this above ground wooden box is any more resistant to a nuclear attack than their existing homes. But then again school children were instructed to duck and cover under their school desks.

Clear your fields of fire out to past hand throwing range first. Then Make sure you have a plan to cover dead space.

My main question is, If you had to have one gun out of your arsenal to be the gun you carry into war. Weather it be an apocalypse or civil war. Mass pandemic with survivalist qualities weather you are anticipating an invasion, a massive war or a zombie uprising. Which gun would you carry as the ultimate doomsday gun you own?


Second layer to the question is, in general what is your current doomsday plan if one arrises?


DOOMSDAY GUN

My Mossberg 500 has everything i'd look for in a doomsday. For home defense as well. Reliable as all hell, powerful enough to send a Zombie to hell or go through makeshift covers of whatever is trying to kill you during a purge. And it's actually fairly light the way I have it with the adjustable tactical stock and grip it's extremely accurate and comfortable. I need to equip a strap.

This of course depends on the actual type of dooms day, but my main plan for a zombie apacolypse is already well prepared for. I have a survival bag. (About 70 pounds) It's a cargo bag. It has 12 guage shells which makes up a good portion of it's weight, but it also has .38 special rounds. 2 first aid kits and many Silver coins with the intent that american currency would have collapsed and people were cherishing presish medals again and in foreign countries the metal value would still be well. I have 10 preserved meals and many water purification tablets, flares and a combat survival knife and some rope in the bag. It's brutally big and brutally heavy. It's like a backpack that goes from your neck almost down to below knee level but if it were nut up or shut up season, i'd carry it.


1st plan would be to find a boat or boaters. I live off the coast of MA near the atlantic ocean, so I have a giant bay in my city. The boat people have a yachtsman club here and boats. Big ones. I'd immediately go there and try to see if I convince one of those boat dudes to take me with them on the boat in exchange for some silver and gold and maybe rounds. If not i'd try to find a spare boat to barter with boat people over their boat. (I really need a damn boat but always put it off lol)


I'd then sail the high seas like a pirate away from whatever bullshit zombie purge is happening.



If it wasn't zombies and it was a civil war, that answer is more obvious. Civil war calls for nut up or shut up season. Just hunker down, and defend the land.



What is everyone else's plan for doomsday and what is their favorite doomsday gun they have?



M1 Garand deserves honorable mention as well. She's done it before and would do it again. Odds are she'd come along.

My uncle has a ton of land. Livestock....small windmill for power......old tractors......harvests his own wood for building material and heats his home cometely with wood he cuts. His daughter brought over some college friends a few years back for a weekend. One of them jokingly said "damn I know where I'm coming when the apocalypse hits".....he got serious quick....looked over his glasses and said "I wouldn't do that".

After bugging out for Hurricane Florence and coming back here to Eastern NC, I'd say anything short of a direct hit on my house again, and I'd bug in. We have a well and swimming pool for water. generator, and rations to last weeks if not more.

Depending on the 'disaster' we're trying to ride out, I'd say lack of power would be the biggest challenge. We'll be needing fuel. I have no less than eight 5-gallon jugs, the boat holds 42 gallons, truck 35 and wife's SUV another 18. Trick is knowing in advance the 'disaster' is coming so you can top them all up. That might make it a week with the generator going full-time. Two weeks if we're rationing light/heat to a few hours a day. Long term power outages in a more urban or city environment and you'd have absolute chaos, and you WOULD need your guns.

'bout all I can think of in my current prepping plan is to get a couple Yeti or similar "good" coolers to keep food longer.

To answer the OP's question:
AR carbine w/ flashlight, sling, and dot sight would be my bedside and all-day companion (plus a sidearm)

"Security" is not going to be a problem.
