GOAL is planning a Rolling Rally for Sunday August 28th - Volunteers needed

Ok ok.... I guess my thought is: if we're driving from something like Arlington to Concord on a Sunday, how long does that take if we drive normally? Half an hour? A few hundred vehicles in tandem would certainly prolong it a little bit, but still... Would that really get noticed by a lot of people?

The route would be longer than that. It would theoretically include, but not be limited to those towns.

The rally point should probably be somewhere near a filling station so that those who need to travel there can top off the tank before a long ride.

There is an industrial park in Boxborough that has a large parking area. Not sure who the tenants/owner are, but looking at google earth there is not much that has the room west of Concord center.

Whoever is doing Comms (the person coordinating it)could you PM me.
Both myself and son (Turbocharged) are Hams and I have a GMRS licenses that allows others to operate. My son has worked the Marathon a few times (including 2013), I have some event comms and public safety experience. Got some extra equipment too, but not all does ham freqs.

DueProcession is awesome, even with the hastag. I can hear the interview now: "We're having the DueProcession today because we all believe in due process -a belief which our AG does not share."

I own a jeep wrangler and belong to some forums, maybe we can reach out to other groups that we are also involved in and try to get them to Join. Harley owners etc etc.

Create a talking point.....

How about a simple Goal logo Flag and the words that says End Abusive Actions From A.G. Healey. (as is on their own web site) Then people can ask us whats that all about, so it becomes a talking point.

I commute 100 miles a day I need a Banner to fly every week day. Maybe Goal can get some made up for a donation? In the mean time I may pay to have one made......We have to be firm without going over the top. Something simple and clear that gets the word out.

I am in, Ham radio operator also.

I agree that this should not be about 2A Rights, it has to be about due process. I can tell you that from the legislative offices I visited today there was a clear difference in the level of response when people talked about 2A rights vs. the AG ursurping the Legislature. The staffers became MUCH more vocal and related how they were pissed off about the AG's end run. That has to be the starting point to get the numbers we need to join on our side. The 2A angle is secondary, if even a consideration, in the anti's minds.

The other thing I would caution about is being cute or cryptic with any names. Whatever is used must be intuitively obvious to anyone who knows NOTHING about what this is about. We're not looking to trademark a unqiue new name, we're looking to clearly communicate a message. If that means you need to use four words instead of one or two, then so be it. "Dueprocession" is extremely clever, but requires more translation than for example "Drive for Due Process."

For an endpoint, I would like to see it be a historic battleground site.... Bunker Hill, Lexington or Concord...

I've been thinking about this as an option: http://www.staples.com/sbd/content/copyandprint/magnetic-signs.html

I figure one on each side of the car for the rally would work. Would like some input from GOAL on having a consistent message. A less expensive option would be window clings (Staples also does them) on the inside of the rear windows on each side but not sure about legality of blocked visibility.

Definitely in to participate in the rally and I like #DueProcession

Suggestion: GOAL provides approved signs (for the less creative) as a high resolution .PDF. People can resize and print as they see fit. Or just copy the message. It'll also serve to provide "guidance" (sorry couldn't help it) on what the message should be.

I'm in - and I think I can pull one or two more people in with me.

At the State House rally some guy drove thru with a small trailer that had a electric sign on it scrolling good 2nd amendment quotes.

I've got a trailer I could probably mount a nice big 4x8 "billboard" on with some sort of self defense related quotes on just to drive the point home.

#DuePROCESSion

That's not bad.

"Rolling Freedom" came to mind before I heard "Due Procession". Maybe Process(ion) for those not quick enough to see the double meaning?

Anyway, definitely in! Lady Radtekk likely to attend as well. I have to be at work in Marlborough at 3 so timing may be an issue for me but I'll be there!

Since there's time, and the LGBT Gadsden has been mentioned several times, any way to get Milo "whatever-his-long-ass-last-name-is" to speak at the end? Want to GUARANTEE press coverage? May be a good Pink Pistol thing too? I know, we don't want to EMPHASIZE guns, but...

ETA: Does it make any sense to get some of the "letter writer" Reps and Senators to attend, maybe ride along parade-style in open convertibles? Politicians generate press, and if WE control the participants, WE control the dialogue. Mostly...

Trying to get Milo in would be an awesome idea IMHO.

Drive which point home?

If the idea is to focus on due process, separation of power, and the AG's abuse of power how will self defense related quotes help?

I'm sure a rolling billboard will help, just need to make sure to keep a consistent message.

Our message should be something that appeals to our audience (above). Gun people are already firmly in our camp, so we don't have to make this about guns. Legislators that might be sympathetic to our cause, but hail from anti-gun districts need to have a reason to get on board with us. Therefore our messages should be that:
1. The AG has put working families at risk
2. If it happens to us it can happen to you
3. The AG has deprived 300,000 citizens of due process

How about a route that drives through the AG's neighborhood and the main senate and house anti's?

Concord or Lexington as a start or stop?? Forgive my lapse of memory on history but what was the route of Paul Revere? Wasn't it Charlestown to Lexington?

I was standing outside the Statehouse today, and a group came through, and a Chinese girl said "Excuse me, are you also following the freedom trail?" I answered "No, sorry I was blocking your freedom". Then I realized that Freedom ends at the Statehouse.

I think a better idea would be a SLOW WALK of the Freedom Trail, making sure to use every inch of our space, and take our time. While there, we can hand out flyers to people. I think driving around some suburbs away from Boston won't affect most of the state or most of the legislature and certainly not the AG.
Just a thought. The other thing would be to fill the halls of the Statehouse on a day when there are other big things planned, making business there as inconvenient as possible.

I DO, however, like the moniker "Due Procession".

#dueprocession

...Freedom ends at the Statehouse....

+1

I also think we need to keep up with the protests with Boston based events at or ending at the Statehouse. We need the Legislature to see we are NOT going away anytime soon and will continue to be an unwanted presence with unwanted publicity until this is resolved.

I have a large fleet of portable radios and willing to donate them for use on the day. They are UHF only and can be programmed for non-HAM bands so as not to interfere with HAM ops in the various towns and can only "talk" to each other. HAMs can program the assigned channels into their radios to supplement as needed.

The frequency range would be the "dot" frequencies with pl tones to limit interference from other users.

Please PM if interested and I can start programming the radios. I'm not sure of the final number of units available until I start programming though. I have roughly 50 units available at present. I'm sure I'll need to make a few new code plugs to get the all to work together.

Distribution and collection of the radios would need to be coordinated and there are some contractual items that would need to be followed to protect my assets (radios). My personal schedule does not allow me to be present on the day but I'd like to comtribute somehow. This seems to be the best way for me to do so.

Thanks

Are they rolling rallies truck friendly? Don't have a two wheeler. Otherwise, I'm thinking the wife and I are in to volunteer for misc...

Anything with 2, 3, 4, or more wheels is welcome.

Don't wait for GOAL. Start a thread and organize it.

FYI - After today, the halls of the statehouse will be largely empty until January. That's why we've been hammering it for the last 10 days or so since the AG drop her bomb.

Communications - An NES member on the planning committee is going to be the point man on this (I'll let him identify himself in this thread). If you're a mobile HAM operator and plan to participate in the rally, let us know.

OK, so I am that GOAL committee member.

The GOAL rolling rally committee envisions a procession of perhaps 200 or more vehicles and recognizes the need for real-time communications within the convoy, along the route, and with our police escort detail.

Many ham radio operators have experience planning and providing communications for public events while training for civil emergencies, these events include the Boston Marathon, Pan Mass Challenge, and numerous smaller events. And as is the case with any sector of society some of those hams are also gun owners.

The committee would like to investigate the possibility of tapping into that pool of communications expertise and available equipment. I will be reaching out to individuals within the club I am involved with. If you are, or can suggest, an experienced individual please feel free to PM me.

I will also be placing a thread on this topic in the ham radio forum here on NES. We ask that you keep in mind that this is a public forum and judge the sensitivity of any information you post.

P.S.> The members of this committee are just regular contributing members of GOAL like you who showed up and said "How can I help." There will be more need for help on this committee and there will be committees for other events, please consider getting involved.

I'm in. I don't have specific event comms experience but I can serve how ever I can be used.

I'll be driving my pickup truck in the convoy and have blocked out the day for it.

1. I SECOND THIS!!! We need a consistent message and nothing too offensive to try to get more people to understand and support our cause.

2. I drive a full size pickup and can rig a sign on a 4x8 sheet of plywood, but would love assistance with what sign should say, I lack creativity and want to be on point.
3. I have a CB in said truck, not sure if that helps, can HAM radios use the CB band???
4. I am willing to help with with traffic control and can bring an orange vest.
5. I would like to donate for the prize, how do I do so?
6. I can bring a couple of boxes of trash bags and am willing to volunteer to take the trash, and properly dispose of it. (providing it is not more than a pickup load).
