Derek, I'm MOST proficient with a Savage Model 99 in 250-3000 Savage from 1930. I can hit bottle caps offhand at 100 yards with it, I've been shooting it since I was 13.
Seriously?

I wonder how fast it would be deemed terrorist organization. Anyone want to guess how that headline would read.
Offhand at 100 ? What would be more incredible than the actual shot,is your eyesite.

I guess I failed to mention my 3 99's are scoped. You're right though, if I could even see a bottlecap at 100 yards unaided, it would be quite a miracle.
I would have an SKS, simply because that is the only combat rifle I own.
choose the one(s) you would want to have - not necessarily what you have right now.
Still a great shot offhand.
You are now officially my designated marksman.
After reading the entire thread I had to go with the AR15. I respect Bill's experience and I definately need to connect with him when the fecal matter hits the rotating blades.
Hey Pete, you were the one shattering clay pigeons with my .45 revolver the first time you used it at 50 yards. If you can do that with a 1917 handgun, one handed, the first time you pick it up, shot after shot, what's the big deal about hitting something at 100 yards with a rifle sling and scope? I'm far more impressed with what you can do with a pistol.

Thanks man. What I was talking about was your experience and why you would chose the rifle you chose. You were there.
...but I would have picked the M14 till I read your post. You've been there. I've only punched paper (and clay pigeons) at the range

Well it's the only combat rifle I've ever shot, genius. I could sit here and pretend to know the in's and out's of all the other rifles but I would be completely full of shit.
I think that he (Scriv) was eluding to that fact that you should become familiar with a multitude of firearms, in otherwords go green (become a member) and come to some shoots.

BTW, the fact the you got Scrived is not bad thing, some people are still waiting anxiously for that.
