I know we're hijacking this thread. But here's a funny story.
In '13, while on our way back after a mediocre day, we passed the sewage treatment plant for the town we were staying in. (Almont, ND , Population 122)
On the 1 acre plot that contained the sewage treatment plant, there were about 50 cock pheasants.
That night the mayor/public works director/police chief was having a drink at our house and I asked him if we could hunt the plant. SURE was his reply.
Unfortunately, the guys with the dogs were grossed out by the thought of hunting a sewage treatment facility. So we never went. We continued to see more birds there than any other place for the remainder of the trip.
If I remember right, it was an early fall blizzard that took out so many birds in 2013. They hadn't gotten their winter feathers and many died of the cold and wet.
