The Liberty Training Rifle

Are there similar savings on other items there? Is there a different price listed? Might need to look into a C&R. Hmmm.

Get one! $30 for 3 years..... you will save far more than that!

edit: that and $19 to NES to go green.... we just did a group buy on custom engraved 10/22 mag releases, under $19 with an NES logo

.050". And they're friggin' delicate punches, too. [angry] DAMHIK.

You may want to have a spare pin standing by, just in case you drop yours. No, it didn't happen to me, but it did to someone I know.

Also, be VERY careful not to let the detent spring and pin go flying, either. They're located BEHIND your adjusting knob and they're under a fair bit of tension. Take the old knob off VERY CAREFULLY. Doing it in a plastic bag wouldn't be a bad idea unless you're very experienced. Or have a very clean floor.

Some good advise right there - good luck

A little research shows that the actual size of the pin is .062". I used a .050" punch because that was the size of the steel stock I had on hand to make a punch. I believe that .0625" is 1/16".

(Yup, that's what my slide rule says).

Old drills may fit the bill here...

No, they won't. This is a roll pin. You should use a roll pin punch, and even if you do try to make do with a straight punch (which can be done if you're REAL careful), you will find that if you use a drill, it's tempered way too hard to be of any use. You'll shatter a drill, especially one that small.

I'll admit, I bubba'd my rear sight....I couldnt get the original roll pin out when I wanted to change out the aperture, so we drilled out the pin. Now I just used a small nail through the knob and sight, with the pointy end clipped off then peened over. Those roll pins are a PITFA.

There's no fix like a WECSOG fix.........

I did use an old drill bit for mine, but I pressed it out with the bit, not hammered. Wile E. would have recommended the hammer, and no PPE, of course. [smile]

Looks like the folks at Tech-Sights have come out with a new front site for the Ruger - all steel and from what I read on appleseedinfo.org it can adapt for slightly larger/smaller front dovetails.

May have to get one for my two Tech-sighted LTRs.

Just got mine on a bull barrel adapted and it is a much tighter fit than the original front sight.

Could not find a roll punch that small. My smallest is a 1/8. Fould straight punch at 1/16 and have been trying to gently remove pin. Not easy. Moved it a very small bit and it seems to have stopped. Also, try finging 1/16 roll pins!!!! I have a collection of pins and none are quiet that small.

This is why I drilled mine out to 1/8, and use a frigging finish tack.

First, I started with Ruger 10/22 Carbines.

Add Tech Sights.
http://www.tech-sights.com/ruger3.htm $59.00
Add DPMS Rapidex knob, for ease of adjusting (optional but highly recommended).
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=353544 $8.09

Install sling swivels studs, detachable swivels and a USGI M1 Garand type sling.
Studs: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=366960 $2.49
Swivels: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=156955 $8.99
OR
Stud & swivel set: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=705310 $9.49
Sling: http://www.appleseedstore.flyingcart...id=10&cat_id=0 $12.49.

Add extended mag release.
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=662086 $4.49

Replace bolt release and hammer (or rework existing ones). I reworked mine. Not for the inexperienced.
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=145851 $35.99
If you're happy with your trigger, then at the very least replace the bolt release (or rework yours. It's not very hard - Ross)
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=688102

Add a BoreSnake, sight adjusting tool and spare mags.
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=260083 $14.49
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=260328 $6.99
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=252579 $12.99 each. I recommend at LEAST 4 of them as Ruger is only shipping one mag with the rifles now.

The preceding is from the first post. Are any of these available at the Appleseed events? In particular, the sling and sling swivels.

Secondly, if not, would someone like to do a group order and get some together and have locally for people? If they are not available, I can order a couple extra for people in the South of Worcester area. Thanks.

I know this had been beat to death, but I'm wondering if Tech Sights has changed the roll pin on the T100 to a more difficult to extract pin. While trying to "gently" remove it I've broken two roll pin punches, probably two different sights as well, but we'll see. Any suggestions or tricks, penetrating oil, PTFE liqid wax, C4...

Thanks

I wouldn't be surprised... the latest set I got I have not been able to remove the roll pin to replace the wheel with a DPMS Rapidex knob. [thinking] Haven't broken any punches yet because I learned - after many years - to not force things.

Well, I guess that makes me feel a little better. I have to admit, frustration did get the better of me. Anyway, I emailed Tech Sights and asked about this, maybe I'll get an answer, hopefully soon. Doing an Appleseed shoot in two weeks and trying to get these ready for my wife and daughter. I really want to avoid any equipment problems so that they are not discouraged by their equipment and can get into the program. Anyway, I'll keep you posted if I hear anything. Thanks.

I drilled mine out and use a peened-over brad instead.

Confirmed with Tech sights, still the same 1/16" dia. 1/4" length roll pin in the sights. Not sure what's causing so much trouble. @ atmay, that's probably my next step.
