if your brain isn’t fully developed by 18 then why do you allow people to vote? Every year some children, yes 16 year old from Brooklline or Cambridge think they should vote in the elections but if your brain isn’t for developed and why would we even think about it?

Biologists, psychiatrists, and lawyers don't often talk to each other and write legislation for politicians to debate and pass. So.

Politicians create laws based on feelings.

Also, in this particular case, the idea that you're a legal adult at 18 goes back WAAAAAY far and is coded into a bunch of laws. I don't think anyone is likely to question it all that seriously.

Of course. Because all humans make all decisions based on feelings.

But before we get too high on our own supply, this means the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights were based on feelings. Which they were. "We hold these truths to be self-evident" is a declaration of faith.

So you are bringing up 3 well thought-out, debated, and meticulously written documents to justify our present day politician who think under 16 and under is OK to choose your gender and vote, 16.5 to drive, 18 to sign legal documents, 21 to be tried as an adult, 26 until you have to get your own health insurance and rent a car?

Come on man.

brains in usa is a sore topic.

in most of europe they form at 16 yr old, here in states - never.

The voting age and military age should be 25. There would be a lot less socialism and warmongering.
The warmongering comes from those who are too old to do the fighting.

And I’m sure back then the maturity level of an 18 year old was much higher than that of present day.
It wasn't just maturity, it was lack of society embracing mental illness as "normal".

The emotional truth matters./s

This looks like a race to the bottom. We've seen this many times:

1) Schools don't teach subjects properly: let's lower the standards so more kids "pass"
2) New soldiers can't do 10 pullups: let's remove the standard!
3) Adults are committing crimes that make big city crime statistics look bad dispite billions spent on "improving equity": lets call these criminals "Juveniels" instead!

They also make you pay Child support until age 23 if kid goes to college. So you get to pay for college and your ex's life style.

Not even close to what he said

Then please explain what was meant like I am 5. I am completely serious, as I feel something apparently went above my head.

The way I understood the comments, it was a comparison.

I stated that this bill being proposed was based off of only feelings.

I was told "before I get high on my own supply", that the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and the Bill of Rights were also based on feelings with the reasoning being the statement "We hold these truths to be self-evident".

To my rudimentary comprehension skills, the only reason to bring up those documents was to compare different legislation that was based on feelings.

Am I in the same ballpark at this point?

It's not just us and it's not just A Long Time Ago. 18 or higher seems to be most countries' default.

The green countries all recognize 18 as the age of majority. Yellow (the Norks) is 17, dark orange is "16 or younger." So most of humanity sees 18 or older as the point where you're legally accountable for whatever you do. Blue is 19, light blue 20.

Not sure that makes it right, wrong, or indifferent. I'm just pointing out that even though the OP makes some sense I suppose, the idea that 18 is the age of majority is deeply ingrained across many cultures and religions. The lighter orange recognizes 21; I guess Mississippi thinks it's onto something.

The point is not to compare the deepest thoughts of children.

The point is that we don't get to claim any special position of virtue WRT politicians working based on feelings. In fact, taking a principled stance - e.g., humans are endowed by their creator with the right of self defense; this right must be treated as sacred - starts with a feeling that is developed over time and through discussion, into policies. This applies to the policies we like just as much as the ones we don't.

Because "rights," as we understand them, are a human invention that results from feelings of "fairness."

So, yes, "Politicians create laws based on feelings." This is true; it's also pablum.

Our hallowed founding documents were likely born from similarly childish protestations. Then people discussed and debated their ideas and ideals before eventually developing a novel framework for the experiment of The (née these) United States.

The proposed idea is not how we do things. It may even be dumb. There are lots of dumb ideas in the world. We don't refute them by saying "that's just your feeling, man." We put them in a crucible and challenge the core idea - e.g., if we're to treat 18-20 year-olds as juveniles WRT crime, for what else should we move the goalpost? If we can't trust them to make good choices within the law, how can we trust their choice of college, or to vote?

This is just part of the plan to justify denying 2A rights to 18-20 year olds. Establish a web of states making the same claims.
MD introduced a bill to ban anyone under 25 from being charged with felony murder.

I support this important, humanitarian legislation.

It will allow thousands of young ne'er-do-wells in bordering states to sow those wild oats in Mass with less risk. Those kids will grow up to become functioning members of society in their home states.

It's about time the politicians did something sensible.

I know so many people burned by the system I've gotten bored posting their horror stories. I know someone from high school still living out of his car because of what his ex wife did to him. after taxes and child support, he has $850/month left over. With $50/week for gas, a $300 car payment and $150 insurance payment he barely has enough left to feed himself. He made quite a few bad choices to get as far down as he got so.....
