Top Shot back tonight

I heard they were using the Barrett match ammo, which I think uses the 661gr bullet with B.C. of 0.62. Not as good in the wind as the bigger 750gr Hornady A-max with a B.C. of greater than 1.0 ! Barrett web site posts windage drift as 7.1" per 1mph of cross wind. Ashley said the winds were 40mph, but that might have been a guesstimate. Unless the expert was allowed to pass on measured data....

I found myself rooting for Jay in the elimination challenge as he has been such a great underdog! Jamie certainly left the door open, but Jay could not get the shot off fast enough with transitions.

Not sure why, but George really seems to despise Jamie. Maybe it goes back to that whole "What do you actually DO in the Navy" questioning. Who knows. But they are locked in a house together 24//7 and you can't be expected to like everyone.

I don't really care what the guys say before or after the events, or how they say it, or whose feelings might get hurt. Its a shooting show, and George really made a hellova shot at 1000 yards in some heavy wind !!

I found myself in the same boat. It's funny, because I hated Jay for most of this competition because of his cockiness, but I guess I kinda liked seeing a golf instructor knock out HSLD types. His performance against Daryl last episode won me over. I was actually sad to see him go last night.

I'd like to see Zins take the whole thing, though.

It seemed that last nights challenge was too technical for him and that's when inexperience will hurt you the most. He got flustered and lost his mental game advantage that had helped him so well previously.

+1 and George knows he wouldn't have done "1 shot 1 kill" if he was first. Makes his smack talk all the more rediculous. He basically bad mouthed Brian too for winning. I don't think I'd want him covering my back.

this,

It's too bad because i liked Kelly last season and i kinda like Jaimie this year... what i REALLY want to see is Jaimie take out George in an elimination match lol now THAT would be some ultimate justice right there

as much as George is a douche he had been doing pretty good, although if George had gone first in the challenge there is no way he would of one-shot it

and his comment at the end last night had me falling out of my chair... "He shot well, he needed to, he escaped pressure today good on him, good shooting today.... but seriously f**k you"[rofl]

if it HAD been like last season which i think was the 2 worst shooters go to elimiation it would have been Joe and Ashley... i like Ashley but i don't like this good ole boy bullshit

I'm sad to see Jay go because of how it happened. I was very happy at the beginning of this season when it seemed like there was significantly less drama and more focus on the shooting. Now, it's all about the drama and less about the shooting. Jay should not have been at that elimination if performance had anything to do with it. Same with Jamie. I am rooting for Jamie and Joe at this point, but the edge goes to Jamie because (at least from what we can see from the editing) he isn't buying into the B.S. and never did. I really want to see George go home next.

It doesn't really matter who gets sent to elimination each time, or even for what reason. The better (most well rounded) shooter will stay. So even if one guy isn't liked and keeps surviving the elimination, it just means he is a strong enough shooter to stay. I would be pretty happy to get two grand for Bass Pro Shops every time I won an elimination challenge.

Dude I don't doubt his skill. Just remembering how he managed to rock himself running 30 feet on the first challenge [laugh]

It was raining and cold. He didn't stretch and pulled a hammy, happens all the time in those conditions.

Yah, I was pretty surprised when Daryl turned out to be older than Brian, wouldn't have guessed that looking at them.

Just watched it on DVR. I too found myself rooting for Jay in the elimination challenge. More boys club antics going on with the nominations but at least in this show you have to shoot for your supper.

George's antics are starting to make me laugh as I'm thinking a lot of it is schtick. I think we may be looking at Zins for the win.

Those four or five guys that all bunk together are way too close for my liking.[smile] I get the whole service comraderie, but Jaimie is also military and can't buy a break.

And George just appears irrational when it comes to the subject of Jaimie.

I understand why all the drama is in the show, but it sure detracts from what would otherwise be a pretty good competition.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the show starts really thinning out the herd... or if Jamie wins next week's challenge and it's gotta be one of the Four Mousketeers who have to get eliminated. I think they'll start eating their own young by then.

I don't know Jamie and we obviously haven't seen everything that goes on, but when asked about his Navy service, he said he couldn't talk about it (IIRC). Isn't he the guy who runs the armory? I suspect he found himself around operators and may have pulled a Grendel. [laugh] I mean, it seemed like everybody wanted Jay to come back.

From the website; http://www.history.com/shows/top-shot/bios/jamie-franks

One thing really bugged Jamie Franks while watching the first season of Top Shot --"Where were the Navy guys?" Though the Navy is not necessarily known for marksmanship, Jamie believes he can outshoot the other branches any day. The graduate of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Skills and Practical Weapons courses and Anti-Terrorism Force Protection/Deadly Force Training is a rifle and pistol expert. As a 13-year active duty Navy rescue swimmer and Operations Specialist, this self-proclaimed "natural leader" attended BUD/S training twice early in his career. During various overseas deployments, he was hand-selected for personal security details in high-threat areas. Jamie admits there is usually "no filter between my brain and my mouth" and wants to prove that he's the pride of the Navy.

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

* Navy rifle and pistol marksmanship expert
* Joint Service Commendation Medal
* 4 Navy/Marine Corps achievement medals
* Navy Meritorious Unit commendation and National Defense Service medal
* Formal training in Navy Search and Rescue, Low-light Shooting, and Water Survival Instruction
* Occasional hunter. Has shot long and compound bows.
* Competed in local amateur trap shooting events

Bare in mind, I am not hating...

He is an OS (Operations Specialist, or radar watcher) BUD/s dud. I met a lot of people that fit that description, and most were in WAY better shape then me and often became rescue swimmers due to the condition they were in from BUD/s. He was probably on a VBSS team at one point (not the most difficult collateral duty to be a part of) which is why he got selected for some super security team overseas. As far as the Navy marksmanship qualification, I am quite confident most on this board could shoot expert. I always did and was usually still drunk from the night before.

I would say he probably let his mouth write a check...

Interesting. Rescue Swimmer but no mention Aircrew Wings. The 2 time buds dud is a tip off as well. He does seem to have a bit of the attitude that the "Nuclear Waste" had when they showed up at Pensacola for re-training in an aviation A school.

Yeah, after reading that, I swear I know at least 2 people that fit his bio, almost exactly.

looks like the next two weeks arn't really going to be about "conventional marksmanship" anyway...

next week looks to be a lot of running around with AR-15 and pistol shooting from "unstable platforms"

the week after that is
Shooting from a moving jeep and hanging from a 125-foot crane are among the challenges.

i'm assuming that is the clay shooting you see in the opening credits

You mean, like stage 4 at the last IDPA shoot I went to at Harvard? [wink]

It may not be bullseye, but it sure tests your skills!

I haven't seen this latest episode yet but it's on the DVR and I plan to tonight. Anyhow, now that their numbers are down to a handful, I suspect the theory of eliminating the biggest threat, knowing that you will have to face them eventually if you're going to win it all may become more of a factor from now on.

I dunno. I suggested eliminating the greatest threats, and it was not a very popular idea with the internet audience. And these guys might be playing it different based on that experience.

I've watched every episode, but I had no recollection of ever seeing Joe. He tried to step up, so I wish him well.

The "vote 'em off the island" factor was bad this week.
