Open 1 1 R017FIELD M1 Carbine Field Grade

Serial #: 4847462 $625.00 $625.00

Looking like a VERY late Quality Hardware; production ended at 4879525. Cool - given the choices, that was my first choice.

SN range is 4632100-4879525 in the 5th and last block, from September of '43 to May of '44, or 247425 pieces. So this is in the very end of production assuming equal monthly totals - Late April or early May 1944.

The victims will be cantaloupe; my wife hates cantaloupe. I'll clean it tomorrow night and then sight it in at the 25 yard range before the assassinations.

I cleaned the rifle on Thursday night. The barrel was very good and not very dirty at all. Took this "new to me" 1943 Inland to the range yesterday and ran 50 rounds through the rifle. No malfunctions and after a slight adjustment it easliy hit the steel targets at my club (100 yards) every time. Pleasure to shoot!

Son and I went to the range today. Brilliant sun, clear, and a windy 35 degrees. He shot 20 rounds at his Zombie Roach 25 yards while I sighted mine in. I shot 90 rounds of Aguila. The first string was low right. I upped one click on elevation and fussed back and forth with windage. The target is my last 10. I had the post on the top of the center as POA. Trouble with feeding and stovepipes, but after switching magazines after the first string, every thing worked fine. Took a bunch off the forehead (lefty). Brass shot a hefty 12-18 feet between 4 and 5:00; good springs.

Found out from GunBoards that late Quality Hardware's had Winchester barrels to speed up production, so the barrel is the original one. The STD PROD mark is from the late 1940's contract that Standard Products had with Uncle Sam to refurbish and upgrade M1 carbines after the war.

The family; 4/44 Quality Hardware, 3/44 IBM Safe Queen, 2/43 Winchester.
