I've wondered more and more about becoming and FFL.
I've done some sales and the FFL ended up being just dude at a range.

Is it difficult to become an FFL?
Steps to take?

in a nutshell

as mentioned, they are looking for the applicant to maintain a retail
establishment (not in your home) and to post and keep regular
business hours...

hmm.
I can't seem to find any outlined requirements. Want to suggest a search string for me to start looking?

As a practical matter in MA, you need to have a commercially zoned property to operate from. That's the biggest hurdle. You need to get all the proper federal and state licenses to receive the FFL.

You have to be a bona fide business and make money. If you aren't moving enough guns, they can pull your license and charge you with fraud (for lying on the application). You can't get an FFL to simply skirt the MA laws.

Gone are the days of kitchen table FFLs....

FWIW this question comes up often enough that I've stickied the thread (that EasyD referenced above) that producer started and EasyD contributed to. At least now it is not difficult to find. [laugh]
