It's almost like he knew it was coming. In slow motion you can see him turn his head at the same time he pulls the trigger. I think he knew it was going to come back at him like that, which makes it even more stupid. Plus, why would he do all that jumping and acting like he's getting ready for something huge before he shot the rifle. Even if it's his first time shooting, I don't think he'd have acted that way.
