Of course Mad Maggie loves it:

Here's the text from HB 1696

(e) No person, organization, department, or agency shall submit the name of any person to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) on the basis that the person has been adjudicated a "mental defective" or has been committed to a mental institution, except pursuant to a court order issued following a hearing in which the person participated and was represented by an attorney.

Our AG twisted this into a requirement to report instead of a limitation of reporting to instances where there is a specific court order to report. Hopefully Chief Justice Dalianis will see through this and slap the AG down.

Interesting wording. Looks like someone about to be committed can avoid the reporting requirement by appearing pro-se.

Well spotted, but someone about to be committed is not likely to be capable of an effective pro se defense. Better to elect a governor who will respect our rights and appoint an AG who follows the law instead of trying to make it up.
