This conversation disgusts me. Either you’re for freedom or tyranny. If you support the limiting of the constitutional rights of a group of American citizens because they vote different from you, than you support tyranny, and are a hypocrite. You deserve to have your RKBA rights taken away. You’re also part of the real problem in this country these days. You’ve fallen right into the trap of identity politics, and are exactly where they want you...fighting with your neighbors over the scraps on the ground, while they continue to steal the wealth of the middle class. Unless we the people can figure out a way to find common ground again, we as a country are doomed.
And lest you think me a fudd...
I grew up in an anti gun household in FL, bought my first gun on my 18th birthday, and my first handgun on my 21st. I have a safe full of goodies, enough ammo to get me though whatever comes our way, and have had a disaster preparedness stock of food, water, and TP for years. I train multiple times a month, and compete when I can to keep sharp under pressure. My sons both know how to shoot. My (very liberal when I met her) wife has her LTC, and a bedside safe with her own personal handgun. I’ve voted republican or libertarian in every election since my 18th birthday.
My career is as a creative, so I am constantly surrounded by liberals. Guess what...we get along. I’m a nice guy, they’re nice people...we’re all decent humans first. I’ve taken quite a few folks shooting for the very first time. They all enjoyed it.
The current climate that divides us Americans into increasingly vulcanized groups of left or right wing radicals is effectively blinding us to the reality of the corporate takeover of our government. As long as they can make us focused on hating our neighbors, they can continue unchecked.
So I welcome each and every American citizen who has decided to exercise his/her second amendment rights for the first time. Common sense would indicate that the more citizens that feel the need for personal protection, the stronger the support for the second amendment. It’s a net win for gun owners. We should be throwing a party for these people, inviting them to the range, welcoming them into the fold, showing them that we are not the a**holes that CNN has made us out to be. That we all just want safety for our families.
Many of the posts in this thread have me thinking that maybe CNN was right about the gun community.
