Even in that situation, the Dems still have nothing to lose. They need to put some skin in the game. If the Repubs agree to the investigation and it comes back clean after a period of time, then Kavanaugh gets confirmed automatticaly without a vote and the Dem senators that made the accusations go on trial for slander/libel.

There was a case, I believe from the late 70's -early 80's where a shrink at the Danvers mental hospital "Helped" a patient recover some "Repressed" memories.
The memories she "Recovered" were of her of all the male members of her family repeatedly raping her over a period of years resulting in multiple pregnancies which were aborted and used in satanic rituals.
The whole family ended up locked up with no bail while awaiting trail and the DA blathering on about how he was going to see these monsters locked up and the key thrown away.
Just before the trial started it occurred to someone to actually have the girl examined.
Not only had she never been pregnant , she was still a virgin.

He put every bit of it in her head as real.

Memory reconstruction is real. The human mind wants to make sense of things, fill in gaps, connect dots. A person can believe they're remembering details when its just imagination desperately filling that space. Ford has admitted huge gaps and might genuinely believe the details provided, even if the conflicts and logical leaps are obvious to an outsider. Nevermind the Left is cheering her on because they hope it's all true.

People also alter memory to justify themselves because we desperately need to feel at peace with our own integrity. She is heavily committed to the story and biased against rolling it all back, even if some Joe Molester came forward and said he had perpetrated all this 36 yrs ago and she was blaming the wrong man. Too late for her to turn back. The best outcome for her personally is no-showing to avoid perjury.

This thread is 1600+ posts long and I cant say Ive read every single one, so forgive me if this has been stated already. Regardless of the final outcome of this, what sane person who is on the political spectrum anywhere to the right of Karl Marx would ever accept a nomination to sit on the Supreme Court? You would have to be out of your mind to put yourself and your family through this.
