That's honestly sad. I don't care if my family were full blown communists they are still my family, and as long as they don't hold political office I could care less.

They vote for the people that oppress you.
If I dictated my relationships on the basis of a person's voting tendencies, I'd only have a small percentage of the population to even talk to. I hold more value in some people than just who they vote for.
They do but it's always the matter of balancing personal costs. You have to ask, what does blowing them off get you? Might make you feel good, but they're probably still going to vote for a douchebag dem the next time around anyways, with or without you in their life. Course Calsdad is going to come along and tell me that these people should be punished- eg, they should know that their actions have real, personal consequences. Problem is even if your wife is a conservative, she's probably still going to get pissed at you when you kick far left liberal cousin larry out from thanksgiving dinner.
There's also the argument that disowning them then deprives you of the ability to screw with them or antagonize them.
Everyone's line in the sand is different of course. I don't know if I'd be able to keep my composure if I had to endure what Mike and his brother did above, though. If it was my house I'd be pissed. I don't know if I'd kick them out, but I'd probably ream out whoever the offender was. That's serious disrespect, IMO.

Agreed.
I'm sure that if I found a relative of mine alluding to my penis as the basis for my views on natural rights, I wouldn't hesitate at all to disrespect THEM. It would seem that they had already formed the boundaries (or lack thereof) of the debate!
There isn't much you can do about people who so willingly want to be helpless and trusting of those who have the ability to oppress them.
I fight the same battles as you. Unfortunately people don't remember that history can repeat itself.
What really amazes me is that there are anti-gun Jewish groups out there. Being the most persecuted people in history, one would think that they more than anyone would recognize the importance.
About the anti-gun Jewish thing, it is weird. My whole family is weird, and had parts of our blood line cut off at the holocaust. My aunt who just recently passed away had her parents and 8 brothers and sisters executed in front of her, while she escaped out the back door of the house and into the woods.

We just agree to disagree.

I'm taking the most anti-gun person in my family, my father, to the range this weekend. It'll be the first time he's touched a firearm since serving in Vietnam. He actually seems really excited.
For some reason I thought I remembered that your dad was in to shooting. I just assumed that's how you got in to it.
Apparently the only people who do a day's work for a day's pay (actually pretty laughable) are union workers.
I get really fed up with my father in law who is constantly spewing that Dems are for 'the working man'.
Of course, this is his code language for union labor.
Apparently the only people who do a day's work for a day's pay (actually pretty laughable) are union workers. He's also hopeless on firearms and I give him a wide berth.
Life is simply too short to waste it with people like this.
Obama-lover, et tu?Its funny in my family I am the "liberal" but they are all anti-gun and I would die defending the 2nd amendment. Of course Im not a really what people would define as a liberal, if you want to know what that means ask it a long explanation. Come to think all of the pro 2nd amendment people in my extended family are the more liberal ones.

My father and his new tree hugging granola eating wife are very anti gun. I keep my firearms collection and carrying of a hand gun pretty low key anyway and on top of that don't talk to my father much anyway. So basically to avoid aggravating " its safer to call 911" conversations I just chose not to tell him.
