There is quite a bit more nuance to it than these numbers show. I went through and studied this as part of a statistics class a while ago. The crime stats have less to do with race and more to do with generational poverty. Extremely poor people get shoehorned into a cycle of never being able to get ahead which begets desperation, which increases the chance of violence in these encounters, especially when the very poor prey on the very poor.
Not true at all. Parts of upstate New York and West Virginia have severe poverty and they don’t have 3rd world murder rates. There is quite a bit more nuance to it than these numbers show. Take $200 from a middle class New Englander, and while it sucks, it is "only" $200.
Take $200 from someone who only has that $200 and was depending on it to feed their family, or for gas to get to work, or for medical needs, well, that person becomes a little more desperate to hold onto that $200, and will fight for it.
Like the old saying, you can take a bone away from a well fed dog, try to take that same bone from a starving dog, and you are apt to lose part of your arm.
I’m not saying there isn’t a reason for it. I also saw the movie trading places. It doesn’t make the stat any less real. There is quite a bit more nuance to it than these numbers show. It is absolutely true. Appalachia, Upstate New York, where I come from in Oregon, all extremely poor areas, with a higher rate of violent crime, as well as property crime, breaking and entering, theft from vehicles, etc.Not true at all. Parts of upstate New York and West Virginia have severe poverty and they don’t have 3rd world murder rates.
Same for Appalachia.
The stat is real, but it doesn't tell the whole story, it is one piece of the overall picture.I’m not saying there isn’t a reason for it. I also saw the movie trading places. It doesn’t make the stat any less real.
I get it. Many child molesters molest other children because it happened to them. It doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be fed to aligators. The stat is real, but it doesn't tell the whole story, it is one piece of the overall picture.
Lower than the US average, but this is always the case for non-metropolitan regions. One needs to look at the historical average and see how the area trends. Not true. Appalachia, certainly some of the poorest areas in the country, almost entirely white, experience drug problems and various associated crimes, have HALF the national average of violent crime.
This is just an item from 'The Week'. But if you're skeptical of the stats from this item, I encourage you to review the research of Dr. Thomas Sowell on this very subject.
He gathers readily available data and crime statistics from everywhere from the FBI to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. If you want a more scholarly review you'd be hard pressed to find a more exhaustive body of work on the subject.
He actually has dozens of books that touch on many subjects that might interest and inform. I encourage you and others to look into his work. It is worth the time. Dr. Sowell is a national treasure.
Or don't. Your choice.
We do ourselves and others a disservice, and more harm than good, when when we engage in reporting unsubstantiated "facts."

Shoutout to @Mesatchornug for being the only one to put the puzzle together.
Here is my full and complete testimony:
For those of you who are unfamiliar with me please read this thread.
For those who DID NOT LIKE what I did:
To every single one of you who thinks what I did was "wrong" or "not helping the cause" I equally say to you all, "Go f*** yourselves." You all need to escape the mindset of logic and reason when dealing with these people. You can't persuade or convince them of anything regardless of your facts, data, or "constitutional rights." These are ideologues who treat gun control no different than a religion. They hate guns and hate you. They couldn't give a single flying f*** about your lawsuits, your rights, your family or your life. You MUST treat them with the same disgust and contempt they have for you. I was throwing up in my mouth every single time one of you said "Thank You" to Chairman Day or recited portions of Heller, Bruen, Marbury v Madison. DO ANY OF YOU SERIOUSLY THINK THAT TYPE OF TESTIMONY MADE ANY DIFFERENCE?!?!?! Of course not!
There is a reason why my testimony out of the 6+ hours of everyone else's will be remembered...because I told the f***ing truth. Every single one of you sitting there with your two-piece suit on like you have a stick up your ass trying to explain to Hitler why you should be spared the gas chamber was laughable. These people are a joke and you should deal with them as such. Do not participate in their charade or show them an ounce of respect. You all showing up being all respectful and shit only reassures people like Chairman Day that you are all cucks who WILL comply with whatever dumb law they wind up passing.
For those who DID LIKE what I did:
Thank you for your support! Like many of you, I sat home virtually all day waiting for my name to be called. Also, if you wondered why some anti-gunners were having "mic problems" when trying to speak it was because the shitlibs didn't properly configure the Teams Meeting correctly so everyone actually had Admin perms to forcibly mute people, deactivate spotlights and disable camera feeds. It seems I was the only person who realized that !
In conclusion, I do not take kindly to the fact my MA Temp (non-resident) LTC will be killed off for literally no reason under this bill and acted accordingly. Can't wait for the next hearing!
