I don't know how good I'd be defending my family while drinking. First, I'd have to finish my drink, cuz I know I'm getting thrown out when I start shooting, and I don't want to let a good drink go to waste.

Yup. You should lose your right to own guns. Let me know when you want to surrender them to me.
Also, please post a pic of your wife, and I'll let you know if you have to surrender her as well.
You can keep the kids.

I guess we know which gun owners to thank for the oppressive MA gun laws
There is a slight difference between the state and federal prohibition. If it is for a 209A, you are correct the federal Lautenberg prohibition REQUIRES said PD to confiscate them.
If frogs had wings, they wouldn't bump their asses on the ground when they hopped. Hypotheticals do not matter. Again, who was hurt here? NOBODY....if someone was hurt, you nail the responsible person's ass to the wall(possibly literally), as both a punishment and an example. Recidivism rates would be greatly reduced IMO, and the example set would be pretty powerful. Don't prosecute pre-crime, prosecute actual crime and follow up with real consequences.
Then we'd have to ban cars, of course. If it only saves one life.

This thread is very telling. It's definitely not the same NES that I joined 6+ years ago. Creeping statism. 16 pages in and no one has been able to establish a victim in this case, other than the dude who crashed and ended up getting hemmed up. Amazing. My list of useless people, gun owners and not, grows daily. Thanks to the mods in this one for keeping it open, and civil.
I'm with you! No victim at all........the OPs buddy should have been able to call a tow truck on his own and be on his way. You should have heard the asshattery with my post about key in the ignition = operating a vehicle! Had about a dozen guys on here that support that BS........sorry......sleeping in a car while intoxicated is not OPERATING WHILE INTOXICED! But there are NESers that support that.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to whacko again.
If you were the President, would you want the Secret Service having 2 beers at lunch before providing security?
Not saying it should be illegal, but your "right to protect my family" argument angle is pretty weak if you're out drinking while "protecting them."
I hear ya. Knowing you've had too much to drink, choosing not to operate a vehicle, preferring not to become hypothermic while sleeping it off....might as well execute them on the spot.
Wacko, you misread my post and neg repped me because you think I don't understand legal process or freedom. Unfortunately, you believe I'm arguing for illegitimate policing when I'm just talking about the immorality of drunk driving and the stupidity of being stupid. This makes so much sense its amazing! again alwaysbeclosing.........tell me who the victim of this aweful "crime" is?
.....I'm just talking about the immorality of drunk driving and the stupidity of being stupid.

Second question: if the keys are in your pocket can you still get jammed up?
I'm glad I come into these threads.... it reminds me of what I horrible person I am, and that I should lose my rights
Last night, My wife, children and I went out for dinner. A cute little place around the corner from my home ( http://www.cjsparrow.com/ great burgers by the way, and everything is scratch cooked unlike so many chains) and I had 2 beers. I drank 1 before dinner and 1 during dinner (my wife had a pumpkin martini, my kids had a water and a sprite). I then drove home. The entire process of leaving my home, driving to the restaurant, eating and driving home took just over an hour.
According to many here I should be punished. I was carrying my 3913, so some here think I should lose my right to own guns.
It's mind-blowing to me that so many here, on this gun forum, think that my right to protect my family ends because I had a drink with dinner at a restaurant
Pardon my ignorance but you can get arrested for being responsible and choosing not to drive?
Second question: if the keys are in your pocket can you still get jammed up?
Errr...okay, so with morality and accountability off the table, then talking about "proof" and "evidence" presumes a crime, and all crimes have tangible victims, and nobody's really suffered here, so there's no crime, so no harm, no foul...I think got it.You missed the point.
Also, we've had probably a dozen "immorality of drunk driving" threads here over the past few years. They all suck and they all end badly. Let's not turn this one into one of those.
You truly do not understand the mind freeing, cost saving, freedom supporting experience of being a libertarian do you?Errr...okay, so with morality and accountability off the table, then talking about "proof" and "evidence" presumes a crime, and all crimes have tangible victims, and nobody's really suffered here, so there's no crime, so no harm, no foul...I think got it.
Seriously, is that the point here? If not, I'm hopelessly lost...
I don't see how any gun owner could not have sympathy for this guy given what information is currently available.
So if I'm at a house party and go out to put up my Windows if it rains I can get cuffed?Funny you ask. YES!
Ask my brother.......posted here before but cliff note version:
Got a bottle on the way to go fishing
drank some vodka while fishing in his canoe (not illegal)
finished fishing
pulled onto shore
said to self.....**** this I'm going to sleep for awhile rather than take a chance on a dwi
left $1000 canoe on ground (important as this is part of his defense)
gets in truck and starts it to run heat (it was early spring and still cold)
falls asleep
cop knocks on window
rolls down window
cop smells booze
cuffed and stuffed for OUI
Yes in most states you can be arrested for operating under the influence just because the key is in the ignition.........and its BS. And yes there are NESers that think being drunk while sleeping in a truck with the key in the ignition while NOT driving should be an arrestable offense........I'll leave it at that.
Many years ago I had the occasional habit of sleeping a bender off in the back of my pickup. Cop bangs on my cap to wake me up and gives me a hassle. He then tries to get me to go in the cab and get my registration.
Told him sorry wasn't driving, not going anywhere near the wheel and can I go pass out at a buddies within stumbling distance.
I'm certain he was trying for a dui as I was closer to fatal than sober and would have needed a good 8 hours to be legal.
Being responsible sometimes isn't enough to keep you out of trouble with the state's revenue recovery team
So if I'm at a house party and go out to put up my Windows if it rains I can get cuffed?
Lmao. Seems pretty ridiculous.
If he was concerned about safety, he would have called a bus for me to get me treated for alcohol poisoning.See what I'm saying people........what business did the officer even have to ask Pastera for his registration in the first ****ing place. Was he suspected of "sleeping in a truck bed"? Jesus Christ the freedom being squashed by this crap is so mind numbingly simple for me to see it hurts my head to wonder why some people here don't see it.
