Derek as Globe Poster Boy - with Picture

All this over a pic in the paper of a guy with a gun dressed in super elite tac gear.

If people worried less about what everyone might think about that pic,we would be making fun of the 2 lbs of chew Derek seems to be enjoying ,and how his face looks like it's about to explode from all the tobacco juice slowly consuming his entire facial cavity..We would also be talking about the wicked cool super tactical Aimpoint M3 on a LaRue mount his weapon is wearing.[smile]

I like the picture, I'm glad they put it in there, and I doubt it did us any "harm".

You people that think it's a bad photo, what the hell are we supposed to look like? Are you saying we should change what we do and how we look and act to appease the sheep? I think that's exactly what you're saying.

It's not like Derek was mugging for the camera gangsta-style with a bandana over his face. He looks like what he is. If you and the sheep don't like it, tough.

Good God people, read what you've posted.

No kidding

You just now realized this ?

-1 rep point for being so slow.[smile]

And quit flaunting all your rep points wherever you go.Everytime I see you post,I am drawn to look in envy at your 2 green squares like a moth to a flame.

Hmmm...I do believe I earned my second square just today thank you....[wink]

Greg makes a good point: The picture is meaningless, (except to us who appreciate chewing tobacco, M4's and LaRue Tactical). If Derek was posing in a smoking jacket with a Parker-Hale, the anti-gunners would cry for all the poor animals he kills or the lead he sends into the greenery. We're damned if we do and damned if we don't. The sheep could care less what their battle cry is about. I think next time, he should hang some smokes and frags on his vest, smoke a fat stogie and flip the bird to the camera...It's all the same to them anyway....

Great pic Derek - looks like a great day - give em hell.... [devil] +1

Yeah, my first reaction was that was exactly what it would look to someone unfamiliar with guns and shooting. The more I think about it, and read your point of view, the more I agree.

Screw them. Put it out there.

Yup. Good point. Secret handshakes are cool though.

I'd like to propose the NES secret handshake. Grab the other person's hand with your thumb extended vertically as if hitchhiking. After establishing a grip, sweep the thumb down using the motion necessary to disengage a 1911 thumb safety.

Greg, I guess I saw what you saw. I wondered why Derek showed the picture with a big "chaw" in his mouth. I never thought about the gun. I was wondering if that lump on his chin was a misprint.

I don't think the people in Massachusetts can get much more negative toward us. Like someone said, we need to show up MORE. It's kind of why I liked the idea of an open carry trash pickup in NH like what was recently done.

We're not bad guys, and we're not crazy (well most of us anyway). Who gives a rats a$$ if people don't like us, what are they going to do, keep a record of all the guns we buy?

First off, Derek knew who he was dealing with when he provided that picture. He's now a NH resident so the MA bed wetters have nothing to worry about unless they come near him on their way to Storyland. For all anyone knows, that picture could have been taken in downtown Falluja or Kabul. And I'd bet that many seeing that picture even thought that.
I can't see how that one picture is going to make such a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Cripes, there are far "worse" pictures in the stands at Borders and Barnes & Noble.

One more thing, I hope the nurse's offices in the elementary schools of the liberal bastions in the state are overflowing with wimpy kids quaking in their shoes over the picture of the "bad man with the scary gun". Load 'em up with their meds so they can function and give 'em lots of counseling.

+1... at this point, if someone wets the bed over it, frankly, thats their problem. We shouldn't have to "hide" from socialist groupthink a**h***s for sake of "image". MA is so far gone at this point if the liberals are going "wah guy with a gun" then so be it. Why should we give a shit what someone that ignorant thinks anyways.... on the other hand, an intelligent, more middle of the road guy might think... "hey maybe this guy has the right idea. I don't need the state coddling me. " We're never going to change the full on moonbats anyways, so upsetting them is the best we can do in the process. [laugh]

Imagine if minorities and gays had just stayed in the background instead of being vocal and being seen. We're fighting for our civil rights. Trying not to upset the sheep and "Great Providers" is getting us no where.

Can I get an Amen? +1

I've made similar statements in many threads to little or no response - perhaps I needed to articulate it better and not ramble so much. I'm growing ever weary of playing nicey-nice and being quiet...

Much of what has been said here has merit, but I don't know if you've chosen the best example here. Sometimes, the enthusiasm to stand loud and proud plays to the worst stereotypes held by detractors:

Caution: the pictures are enither work safe nor family safe.

So, you're calling Derek a naked homo?

I wouldn't want to be you right now.

Seriously... Congratulations on the worst straw man ever. Well played.

EDIT:

This really pisses me off. If you're comparing Derek's photo to your collection of "We're here, we're queer, get used to it" pictures - pictures that were staged only for the shock effect, then you must be ashamed of yourself for being a gun owner.

By posting that link, you're equating (or at absolute minimum comparing) a picture of a Marine at a training course, pointing a carbine in a safe direction, with proper trigger discipline, to a flaming homosexual wearing a cowboy hat waving his Slim Jim around in public just to get a rise out of old ladies?

Nice.

I think the overall jist of this thread is to stand up and take back our Constitutional rights and not lay down or go underground.

This is the state where it all began, 233 years ago our forefathers fought against the people that were trying to disarm them.

What Derek says is true, we need to stand up, come out and be known.
