Ok i am thinking about getting a 45. I love glocks, and I also love the 1911. has anyone shoot the glock 21, and how does it compare to the 1911?

Apples and Oranges.

For carry/conceal I would go with a Glock. The glock is more lightweight. For everything else I'll stick with my 1911.

You can find a bunch of accessories for both guns. I would try to shoot them both and if you are going to conceal, maybe do a few laps around.

WOW!
Now there is a BIG ol' can of worms to be opened... Glock VS 1911!

This thread should be good!

Seriously though... They are 2 VERY different firearms. They operate completely different, feel, and look different. I guess it kind of depends on what exactly you will be using the gun for, and what you like better, and what you shoot better.

The 1911 will easily fit a medium to large sized hand. The Glock 21 grip is a bit bigger and may be uncomfortable for those with medium sized hands.

I have never shot the glock 21. I have shot a colt 1911, and it was so nice to shoot, i think it may have been the best gun i have ever fired.

So I guess i am going to Manchester, to rent one at the range to see how I like it.

I have a Glock 21 and recently bought an S&W 1911. The 1911 has a great trigger, shoots incredibly accurately, certainly has been reliable and is an all around great gun. Having said that, I am in the process of trading the 1911. I just like the Glock better.

One can argue about durability and magazine capacity versus accuracy and finnesse and so on, but I like a Glock. They are both great handguns it is just a matter of taste.

I've never shot a G21 - I have shot a few 1911s and clones. I really like the 1911, and even though I have short, fat fingers the 1911 fits me just fine.

I've shot 9mm & 40S&W Glocks, and even though they don't feel real comfortable in my hand, I still tore out the center of the targets with them. go figure. *shrug*. I'll probably get a Glock at some point, but it's not an urgent thing with me.

Get one of each.

I don't have a Glock, won't ever have a Glock but I have handled them. I found it's grip angle to be very odd and unnatural, whereas the 1911 grip angle is just the way it should be.

As to carrying, the 1911 carries fine. I've got one on me right now...lots of people have carried them for almost 100 years. The Commander sized are even better to carry.

and...Glocks are ugly.[puke2]

This is one of those philosophical questions that one can use to determine whether one is sympatico with another, along the lines of:

Ford or Chevy
McDonald's or Burger King
Coke or Pepsi

Those that choose Glock, of course, are wrong.

No its is not! thats is a stupid statement statement that you have made.

My question was not what gun is better, rather how do they compare. to each other, in terms of recoil, handling, and over all feeling.

Personally I don;t like the Glock grip angle and the slide is so wide I feel like I'm shooting over the hood of a bus

But they both are great guns, get the one that feels better in your hand

That's easy...

Chevy
McDonald's
Pepsi

I didn't answer all of that.

Recoil? comparing equal calibers, the 1911 will recoil less because of it's weight.

Handling? if you mean reliability, an 'average' Glock might have an edge over an 'average' 1911. However a name brand like S&W will be as reliable as a GLock.

If by handling you mean, like manual of arms, the Glock is point and shoot, where the 1911 is click safety off, point and shoot.

If by handling you mean safety, The 1911 has it over the Glock. Check out the 'accidental' discharges and see how many are GLock and how many are 1911. The lack of a Glock safety is responsible for a lot of ND's, especially since you have to pull the trigger to disassemble it and also due to holster hangups.

Overall feeling, I think I and others have covered.

Also Glocks are ugly.

philly,

My apologies for the flip remark. I was being silly.

In all seriousness, it is very difficult to compare the two guns, as they are very different machines.

The 1911 is, for the most part, an all-steel, single-stack, single action pistol. The Glock is a polymer-framed, double stack, double-action only pistol.

You're talking about different weights, different sizes, different magazine capacities, different method of carrying, different safeties, etc.

It's like asking to compare a Colt Python with a Smith & Wesson Airweight just because they both shoot .357 Magnum ammo. Or to compare a Ford Escort with a Lotus Esprit because they both have four cylinder engines.

The Glock 21 and the 1911 are very different guns whose only common factor is their chambering.
