What to do to shell casing to let non-LTC friend take it home?

So if my kids are collecting empty beer bottles on the side of the road, they are now in possession of alcohol?

WOW

Nope, ammunition!

What the hell is that? Is that a beer bottle launcher?

Can Cannon Soda Can Launcher for AR-15 & M16

https://www.xproducts.com/can-cannon-soda-can-launcher-ar-15-m16

The Can Cannon is a patent pending launching device for soda cans and other heavy, thin walled objects. A proprietary gas ported barrel and pressure tube reduce the exposure to high pressure gasses which could destroy relatively delicate projectiles. The Can Cannon is currently configured for launching full, un-opened 12oz soda cans. When used with standard mil spec blanks and fired at an optimum angle it can reach an average distance of 105 yards!

Threads with questions like this always make me think of this clip.

OPEN CONTAINER

I wonder how much alcohol even needs to be in an "Open Container" for the Police to bust you. If they feel like it.

Here's betting none at all.

There ya go.

A soda can is officially an "Ammunition Component".

Didn't some kid passing thru from ct get jacked up for a 50 bmg case with a big hole drilled thru it?

Related, how do you dispose of brass in MA? Say you don't reload and find a spent shell in your shirt from the range? Or you reload and have some bad brass? If there's all these laws around possession of ammunition components, how do you dispose of the brass?
Find a politician that doesn't have an LTC and put them in his/her car then call the swat team and a tv station. Maybe the law will get changed.

Can you point to a single incident where someone got jail/prison time for possession of an empty case with no other concurrent offenses?

Just one case is all I am looking for.

A nerf gun becomes a firearm if on school property.
A 12 year old kid in Barre got run up the flag pole by the DA for having a spent casing a veteran gave him after firing a 21 gun salute at a Memorial Day thing.

Casing are illegal too? I went to the range a few weeks ago. That week i did laundry and heard something rattling around and it happened to be a 9mm casing. I ended up keeping.

I love massachusetts...
I wonder if they'd bust someone for those artillery cases people use for umbrella stands? That'd be one silly case to take to court.

I have no doubt some cops will push the shell casing issue.

I am still waiting for a credible report of anyone getting jail time for a spent casing.

Who cares about jail time? The fact you can be even charged with a crime for having an empty casing is more concerning because even if you are found not guilty, or charges get dropped, you are still very likely spending some money to get out of it.......The line of concern should be with the charge i the first place, not the possible sentence of jail time....

tell him not to do something illegal and stupid while he has it on him and he should be fine. No DA on the planet is going to prosecute a case where the sole offense is possessing a spent shell casing. If you're really worried, drill a hole in it.

i had no idea about this. I had like 50 shells from various times I went shooting YEARS before getting my LTC

I have a WWII .30cal cartridge (less powder) that my Dad brought back from WWII (he was a BAR operator). I had it since I was a kid, it used to sit on top of my dresser with the bullet separate from the case (live primer).

I suspect this became a crime with the 1998 law, but by then I had my LTC for >20 years as did my Wife.

But the unintended consequences of these types of laws can be brutal ($$$ and potential for loss of freedom/rights), make no mistake about it.

Bringing live ammo to Logan is just asking for trouble. Not that I agree with it in any way, but it's the reality right now.

As for the other guy: Ho. Lee. Crap.

I don't know who this guy pi$$ed off but, wow...

This kind of crap makes me want to buy one of those 1,400 round buckets and dump it in a crowded mall or airport.

drill a hole in the side.

That is NOT compliant any more than a spent .22RF case is! Neither can be reused, but the law does not make any distinction between reusable components and non-reusable components. Of course anyone that desires can push it to try to make the courts determine what is OK and what is a felony?

So all those spent .30-06 shell casings given to me as a kid from the local veterans in MA on memorial day as they fire at areas around town put me in a position of felony possession before I got my LTC? What a f*&%(*& dumb state. Even dumber than I felt about it 10 min ago. I gave my girls each a spent 5.56 casing and they love it. I hate this unconstitutional dump called Massachusetts. I gotta get the wife to let us move to Montana.

22 rf cases are reuseable and people reload them. Aside from that, if the case is crushed or melted, does it retain magical properties? I find it hard to believe that even an MA marsupial court would be so foolish

Think of this possible scenario:
AH cop charges you with possession of ammo.
Court dismisses, because even the judge knows its stupid.
Now it's on your CORI, possession of ammo dismissed.
CoP (same town, different town, doesn't matter) says you're "unsuitable" because you were once charged with a firearms violation. It's up to you to prove otherwise $$$$$.
Can't seal from PD or Expunge in MA so it's there for life.

So it's not just about the conviction, it's about the charge.

Having said this, I do think drilling a hole in the case so it can't be an ammunition component will keep any but the biggest AH cops from caring.
