AHHHHHH ...it's a BOX !

POLICE UPDATE #4 4:52 PM April 19, 2007:

The origin of Stonehill’s empty ammunition boxes, which prompted a precautionary evacuation of a student residence hall Wednesday night, has been identified.

On Thursday afternoon, a Stonehill student, who is a member of a sportsman’s club in another state, contacted the Stonehill College Police Department to report the possibility of ownership of the empty ammunition boxes.

Over Easter, the student had been skeet shooting out of state and inadvertently left five empty ammunition boxes in the car. At some point, unbeknownst to the student, they fell on to the ground of the parking lot behind O’Hara Hall.

There, another student found them and brought them to the attention of the Stonehill College Police Department, which in response evacuated O’Hara Hall as a safety precaution.

Upon meeting with the police officers, the student provided detailed information such as identifying the brands as being the type used when the student was skeet shooting.

The student regrets that this inadvertent action has caused disruption and concern to so many people both on and off the campus. No action will be taken against the student.

POLICE UPDATE #3 8:07 AM April 19, 2007:

Since our last alert, some Stonehill community members have asked additional questions about the evacuation of O’Hara Hall last night. We wish to respond to those questions.

At 6:35 p.m. last night, the Stonehill College Police Department received a report that five empty cardboard boxes that are used to store buckshot shells were found by a student behind O’Hara Hall.

If this wasn't so f*cking sad I make some kinda wisecrack about the size of the Skeet they shoot up there, being that they hafta use BUCKSHOT ! [thinking]

This is worse than the blinky lights in Boston.

I've worked in places that sell guns and ammo and I saw the pictures of the boxes they found at Stonehill, and they didn't appear to be buckshot. They appeared to be target loads, likely #8s high velocity all purpose target loads.

I could be mistaken, but I think I'm right.

RUN!! RUN!! The corrugated killers are after us!

Well, what did we expect? College students are cossetted babies who are put in a weird little bubble of sex, drugs, alcohol and relativism for four years. Everything is provided for them. They don't have to face reality or grow up until they have to leave the womb, er, dorm, in search of a real job. And if that doesn't pan out, there's always the ethereal nebulous refuge of grad school...which can go on...forever. An empty box utterly terrifies them because they have no instructors telling them what to do about it or take care of the problem for them. Oh the horror![rolleyes]

I would have liked to see what they could have charged him with (other than "capital littering")! [rolleyes]

Let's see . . . possession of "ammo components" (cardboard) on a college campus?

If I found them, in the old days, I would have picked them up and thrown them in the nearest trash bin. Today, I'd only touch them if I had rubber gloves with me, to prevent them from backtracking my fingerprints! [Regrettably, I'm serious!]

I'm glad none of the above wimps were emptying my trash. I just recived a case of 7.62X39, and loaded 500 of it on my stripper clips.

Should I have put a lock on my trashcan? [rolleyes]

I begin to think that it should be REQUIRED for students to spend a year after high school WORKING - in the REAL world - before going to college. It gives so much more incentive to study hard, not to mention giving them some experience with how the real world works. I know that it did that for me...

we use buck shot all the time to shoot trap and skeet at my club. Yeah, it's a little louder and hase a bit more kick, but we say if you want to kill it you need to use the right load.

WTF!!!!!! Now we are running from empty boxes??? On top of that can't the police even read? Or for that fact when they found out the student was shooting skeet wouldn't they know you don't use buck shot? Everyone knows you use slug to shoot skeet.

This is ridiculous.

The upside is that these are the people that my kids are going to compete with for jobs, etc in the "real world".

freaking sad.... just freaking sad.

of course it does make me wonder what my trash man thinks since I make no effort to "hide" my empty boxes in the trash...

I'm sure I'm now on some watch list [rolleyes]

I don't give a damn what they think. Actually, I know they like me, because whenever I leave a bunch of stuff, and some things that even shouldn't be taken, I leave a 12 pack on top with a note. Do that a time or 2 and they will take ANYTHING!

BTW, I put my empty ammo boxes right in the recycle bin. They are recyclable!

Naaaahh..."creating a terroristic threat"? Due to the panic created by.....empty boxes? I've seen stupider things.

Good point. We are all in FBI databases because of our LTC fingerprinting. I wonder how far that info goes....
