To the elected delegates of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The following is in regard to the Attorney General Maura Healey's notice given on July 20th of this year to the people of Massachusetts regarding certain types of firearms commonly owned by our citizens.
If you allow Attorney General Maura Healey to rewrite already written law without legislative due process you are condoning such an act.
An act that without due warning has made possibly hundreds of thousands of people in Massachusetts felons overnight.
What do you imagine will happen if diplomacy fails them?
Is that something you would want on your conscience?
Please support Senator Tarr's Act to Protect Due Process.
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
-Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book(quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria),1774-1776
"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country."
-James Madison, Federalist No.46, January 29,1788
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
-Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.
