NY - State Senate Refuses Microstamping Bill (For Now)

Gun-loving Republicans and a handful of Democrats delivered a stinging rebuke Tuesday to Mayor Bloomberg's campaign against illegal handguns.

Despite the mayor's intense lobbying with his GOP allies, the Senate refused to pass a measure that would require some bullet casings to carry unique markings.

Senate leaders hurriedly withdrew the measure moments before it was about to be defeated - which would have been a big embarrassment for Bloomberg.

Because the bill was pulled, it could come back for another vote if Bloomberg can sway two more supporters before session ends.

People (we) need to start using phrases like "willfully ignorant" and "deliberately deceptive" when describing not only bills like this (and gun-a-month, and waiting periods, etc) but the people who advocate them. And we need to start using them around people who don't already agree with us.
