Now Dr Asking..

There isn't. For most things it's in the patient's best interest to be honest, but this isn't patient care related. Several years ago my PCP asked me if I had guns in the house. I told him yes. He asked if I kept the guns and ammunition separate. I told him that they wouldn't be much good to me if I did that.

He never brought it up again.

Many patients lie about how they feel and their medical conditions when visiting the doctor's office. I doubt there's any legal obligation to answer anything truthfully.

I've taken my PCP to the range multiple times. And his wife...

:)

“Guns in the house?” ‘Yes: glue gun, caulking gun, nail gun, squirt gun. . . “

I recently had a doctors appointment and for the first time was greeted by this at the front door..........

They didn't ask any questions about guns but they wanted to know how many beers I drink. Then I was referred to a specialist, no signs or gun questions. Then it was the out patient surgical center, no signs or gun questions.

Most gun owners are not going to answer truthfully or at all, so why bother asking?

When the patient answers yes to that last question, someone from his care team explains that locking up the firearm can make his home safer. She offers him a gun lock and a pamphlet with information on secure storage and firearm-safety classes. And all of this happens during the visit about his ankle.
Cute diversion but its to get it recorded into the "system"
Insurance companies, state (red flag), fed, etc

I don't recall ever being asked about guns, but a while back, the MD said, "Do you feel safe at home?"

I laughed.

I know, it's a valid question for many people.
I always have fun with that one... :D ... up until my wife gives me that dirty look. [laugh]
My old doctor knows that I have fire arms used to get test for lead, my new doctor have not ask the ? yet.
Likewise. Never an issue with my old PCP. My new PCP has asked me a million questions about my health... but not one yet about firearms. 🤔

I've been asked several times if "I feel safe at home". I enthusiastically say yes, what about you. As these are usually people much younger than myself I give them a quick lecture about them being responsible for their own safety, not the Police. Explaining that having good situational awareness is by far the best way to ensure your own safety. Actually one girl years ago asked me point blank if I had a gun in the home. My PCP was in the room giving me the look as if I shouldn't say anything. I said "Gun, singular, no I don't have a gun". My PCP took the clipboard and to told the girl she would finish up. She crumpled up the form and threw it away saying it was none of their business. Then she called me a smartass.

If I'm ever asked point blank again I think I'll give them the Steven Wright response; "What do you need"

Not sure if serious. "Most gun owners" are not like the majority of people on this forum, they often have a different worldview of gun ownership vs what you or I or others here likely do. The AMA is doing this shit from top down to promulgate the mindset of "guns r bad" or "guns r specil and dangeresss" etc.

We need to get out of this mindset that gun owners are monolithic. Right now there are gun owners in this country that would turn their shit in for money or even agree with certain forms of gun control.

A few years back I was being asked these questions and was laughing when I asked the very nice assistant who I’d known for years “Who answers this shit”? Her reply was you would be shocked.

Or visiting the hospital. I always asked the patient if they used any recreational drugs when they would come in with an infection in their arms or feet. I already knew the answer because their urine toxicology screen results were already in the computer. When they said no, I would ask them then why did your urine test come back positive for opioids, coke, THC, alcohol, and benzo's? Crickets time! Then I would say, I'm not the police. If you want help and to get out of here ASAP, I need the truth. More crickets or I was told it was a pressure treated wood splinter or the dreaded brown reuse, not recluse, spider bite!

The doctor who did my back surgery is a member of my club. The last time I saw him, I mentioned that I haven't seen you around much, He replied that I don't have time to get there as often as I should.
