My Son is an Active Dury Marine serving at Camp Lejeune...is travelling home today for Easter...his command specifically informed the men NOT to wear their uniforms because it could cause possible confrontations and them being singled out advertising themselves as United States Marines.
THAT IS A TOTAL DISGRACE!
That these brave men have to hide who and what they are in the very country they are sworn to defend!
They SHOULD stand out as examples of what this country is all about...not hide it becasue of some Political Correct Liberal BULLSHIT!

That's been standard since 9/11. The only individuals authorized for travel in uniform are those returning from theater (mid-tour leave) and those leaving training status (i.e. Basic Combat Training, AIT, etc).

Aloha

yea, who the **** do they think they are, strutting around being proud of being the FEW the PROUD, the MARINES. Obama will put them in their place.
If I were to receive "the Medal" I would not go to the white house and have him touch it, I would say USPS it to me, thanks.

thats pretty much SOP and has been.

no one ever wants to wear alphas or blues anyway, especially on a cramped flight

[puke]

Don't know ANYONE who would confront someone in the service past or present.

Regardless of your politics, you support those who put their life on the line to protect this country & its ideals whether or not you agree with the current regime. [rolleyes]

Shame on us

I look at it as trying to protect the uniformed servicemen from an angry confrontation. Is it sad that some people might want to start shit with them? Absolutely. As far as I know, it's not new, though. While I wasn't around during the Vietnam conflict, didn't the same thing happen then? Some people 'attacking' servicemen?

I personally think it's great to see people in uniform. It exposes more people to the reality that our military is both necessary and IMO, a good thing. I like to see them there. It's comforting, really, especially because all the law-abiding people are disarmed in airports. And if I'm traveling and in a bar or restaurant next to someone in uniform, I'll offer them a drink on me as a tiny token of thanks.

the few times I've seen men and women in uniform at Logan not only was there not a confrontation but folks were competing to buy them their coffee at starbucks

Interesting:
I have had to travel to Dallas TX a couple times for work. On many of the flights were soldiers (i think ARMY, but not sure) wearing uniforms.
I would assume that rule is not just for marines? Wonder why some do?

I will say that on american, if there are 1st class seats open, it was the guys in uniform that got free upgrades. Albeit jealous, i think it was a nice and earned jester.

I remember years ago when Marines were somewhat ordered to reconsider the high and tight.
It was explained to us that it made us look to ferocious!
I'm sure Chesty and Dan Daly would roll over in their graves.
In fact. I bet they would so they could be pointing their Arsses up for the liberals to kiss.

I never heard of such a rule while I was in.

I was heading back to Cali one time on a flight and was in just plain clothes with couple fellow marines. A few rows back there was a soldier that was being escorted back by two chasers. He was in his camis and we knew what the deal was. When we got off the plane he was right behind us cuffed. The chasers put a jacket over his cuffs on the way out. When we got off the plane no one knew there was about 4 marines traveling but a huge crowd of people started cheering for the $#itbag. I know doesn't really pertain to OP but thought was funny enough to share.

Same here. Last time I was at Logan (a couple years ago) the whole terminal started cheering and clapping when a serviceman returning from overseas met and hugged his wife and young child.

Being a frequent flier means I usually sit in first class. Sitting in first class means I am one of the first off the plane. Whenever I see uniformed military on the plane, I look to see if there is family waiting for them and stick around for a bit if I do spot them. There is nothing more heartwarming than seeing a brave warrior reunited with his or her family.

Tell a 19-year-old male that a certain haircut makes him look ferocious and then tell him not to get it? Yea, that'll work. [rofl]

Maybe the hairy khristners (sp)are making a comeback, hanging at the airport, swarming any boot in uniform!

ohoh,forgot the sarcasm disclaimr!

The only time I've ever travelled in uniform was after boot leave headed to ITB to check in. I can remember being told it's better to keep a low profile. I doubt many Marines, other than checking into MCT/ISB actually travel in their service uniforms since we don't wear cammies out in town, unlike other branches. Shirt stays suck.

maybe they should be ordered to stay in fatigues with an issued high capacity sidearm. this kind of homeland security obviously would make be common sense.

The whole look at me thing wears off pretty quick. If you look at most non-recruiters walking around in uniform, you'll see a lack of ribbons and rank most of the time.
