It's Happing Again - This Time In Falmouth

Can't imagine how difficult it would be to create a new range...
That Nantucket Hunting Association is trying. It has a lease on the land and approval from the town, and is currently awaiting the decision from the trial in Suffolk land court this summer. I would guess each side spent in the 6 figures on the case. I spent 2 days in court waiting to be called as a witness, but they ran out of time and the other side agreed to stipulate as to what I was going to say.

The ultimate fix to these situations is to take over the municipal government and ZBA by electing friendly people to the governing boards. If there are more working class, full-time residents than elites and summer only residents, then this should not be difficult. The problem is that these positions require real work, not just showing up on issues you personally think are important. If you want to actually run your town then you have to run your town all the time.

The law may be on your side now (IF the courts agree), but that only helps until the law is changed. If you want to control this you have to be the government.

Exactly! Good post. Not even taking over the muni govt, but BE A PART of your govt as he says later in post. It's called democracy folks. Democracy takes work on our part. You don't have to go to all or many meetings, but at least be informed, and not just on your pet issues (gun ranges), there is more to life than just aggrieved gun ranges. Wake up! That gun ranges are under fire is just a symptom of the participation in our overall town affairs that we have ignored and not taken part in. Heck, even one of the top three chatroom pontificators on here, len2atraining, was a town mtg member for over forty years (he manages to tell us at least once a week). Such people deserve praise, it is all volunteer time they give to be on these boards/commission/committees/town mtg members etc etc.

Hell, some of you people that get incensed about bad things happening in your town or others with the gun ranges, as you descend from the hills with your pitchforks, want to go to and attend the meeting about that issue. But you don't even know where the town hall is, or you don't even vote. Time to wake up and smell the coffee.

Thanks
