I did some work as a contractor in the Ilion plant in the 1980’s. Even back then, it felt old and inefficient. Cerberus then came in, milked as much capital as they could out of the combined firm, and didn’t bother with pesky details such as quality control or updating the Ilion facility. They got theirs.
The bankruptcy trustees and creditors’ committee cared just as little about firearms manufacturing as Cerberus. The latter in particular loved the settlement — it meant one fewer calls on the remaining assets.
When you add in union contracts and NY politics, the reopening of Ilion was pretty much doomed.

I feel for those folks... but as someone who worked for a manufacturing company in a small town... if you paid attention the signs were there it was closing.Small New York Town Devastated as Gun Plant Shuts Down

In November 2021, Remington Firearms announced that its global headquarters, a new advanced manufacturing facility, and a research and development center would locate in LaGrange, In September 2022, Beretta Holding S.A., through its subsidiary Norma Precision Inc., announced plans to expand its footprint in Georgia and build a new manufacturing, assembly, and distribution facility in Bryan County.

They got screwed by multiple parties:
1. The old owners management of Remington that didn't keep the company up to date.
2. The Cerberus Capital scumbags that bought the company to play spreadsheet games with debt to enrich themselves with stock manipulation.
3. The union that did not advise the old owners how to run the business better in order to feather bed their current positions even though it meant long term doom
4. The Sandy Hook grifters
5. NY state's evil power hungry government that would rather rule over ruble than allow the prosperity of those they disagree with.
I don't blame Roundhill, the current owners, for relocating operations out of state in order to save the company for the 21st century. Remington is very lucky it didn't get the full Eddie Lampert Sears Robebuck treatment, since Cerberus for all of their debt loading of the company at least did invest in modernizing production to maintain a functional framework of a company.
It is simple:
A. give poor people a bunch of "free sh*t".
B. do not encourage then to make more money, do not train them on useful skills, do not set up a system designed to get them out of poverty.
C. Lower the standard of education.
A+B+C = slave votes.
It is a very simple and effective equation. It works in every country.

Fox Business News just ran a story about today being the final day for Remington in New York, and interviewed some former employees who have a family legacy of working at the plant.
The town of Illion said they'll be losing more than $1M in tax revenue due to the plant closure, so they'll be raising local property taxes up to 3% to make up for the shortfall.
