Friendly Warning on High Cap Mags

IMO: The poor Massachusetts person who will win the "soap on a rope" booby prize will eventually be one of those "arsenals on parade" gun porn shots at the police station showing off their entire illicit collection. More than likely, the Hi-Cap charge would be a "piling on" of offenses to further jam you up: Thus, if the AG wants you to burn at the "AR-15 / EBR Witch Trials", you are going to go down hard.

One point, though I know this thread is about mags, are the people I see at the range with clearly contraband uppers with flash hiders and threaded barrels that were made POST ban.

IMO: I do not have anything that would cause me grief. If people out there do, just keep that to yourself and stop creating attention to a problem where there is none for the majority of us. Bottom line: If I have to start proving the age of all of my mags and uppers because there are a bunch of retards out there who will not follow the law, then it is truly not worth the risk.

This is a BS law, cannot easily be enforced (unless the LE/GOVT stamp is on there), and everyone knows it. Just STFU and go about your business (and MYOB).

Who cares in a year from now everything will be outlawed and we will all be criminals, thanks to Oblowma and his rumpwad of an attorney General

Geez, guys, come on. If he wants the House bill number, give it to him: H.5636 from the 1998 session. [smile]

Damn your good, I really didn't think anyone could back it up! [smile] Thanks.

But I must say, this forum confuses me, it seems that everyone is pissed off at the rules this state has, but doesn't want to do anything about it. Seems happy to just comply and keep your head down so as to not cause a ruckus or become noticed because your afraid they might take something else away.
That just sucks out loud, living in fear.
I liked the post that some have about education your neighbors and friends and co-workers, that is a start for sure.
We all know and agree the rules of this state should be more "universal" with other states, you know the ones that let the Fed laws dictate whats allowed and whats not. It would be nice to see the NRA and GOAL push our lawmakers to that end.

I joined the NRA a few months back and will join GOAL when I see that kind of headway.

Well, yes, I agree, it sucks. But breaking this law isn't necessarily the way to get the law changed. I don't want this stupid "evil mag" ban any more than anybody else, but what would landing myself in prison do to change it? It certainly wouldn't help me, and I can assure you it wouldn't cause any moral outrage in the population of this fine state.

Educating people about the laws, showing them the inherent flaws, taking gun fearful people to the range, showing that lawful gun owners don't want criminal violence and our young people killing each other any more than anybody else, and supporting organizations like GOAL. These are the things that will help make a difference.

Just my two cents worth on the whole pre-ban mag thing.

From what I just read, Israeli Orlite 30 round mags are pre-ban and work well in AR-15's. There has been some confusion about the so-called "date-stamp" on the side. Orlites were never dated stamped. The number on the side is a mold number and is often confused as a date. The Israeli Army used Orlites during the 1980's into the early 1990's before switching over to the current USGI mags, so if you have any Orlite mags, you are good to go as far as being in compliance with the pre-ban mag law in Massachusetts.

Great. Another freeloader.

Who do you think FUNDS GOAL, anyway? Hint: they charge dues for a REASON.

They need you on their roster NOW, so that they can go into the lawmakers' offices and say that they represent xx,xxx MA gun owners. It's because of freeloaders like you that they can't - GOAL has like 5000 members - out of what, 250,000 LTC holders in the state?

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Pry open the wallet and join... or admit you're too lazy to help change the laws in this state. Oh, yes, and put your rep and senator on speed-dial on your cell phone. Let them hear from you CONSTANTLY so that they know you're paying attention.

The way I've looked at this, I don't think we can forget the chilling effect discretionary licensing brings about either. Even if one was never convicted, in many towns in this state appearing in court over even the most stupid and technical firearms violation is probably a straight ticket to giving up your rights.

Even if one were to win a "test case" the fact you were a "case" might make you "unsuitable" in someone's eyes.

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure who makes the mags for the Sig 5.56. It's possible that Orlite has a contract to make them, but they don't look like the milsurp Orlite mags that one finds available. Sig's website doesn't say who makes their mags....they are simply claiming it is made by Sig. If you compare photos, you will see the the Sig 556 mag looks quite different than the milsurp Orlite. Besides, I don't think there would be too many "surplus" Sig 556 mags in circulation........not at the prices they are charging!
