According to the BGlobe:

Citizens group rekindles effort to stop violence
Eight city homicides this year spur eclectic band of activists
http://www.boston.com/news/local/ar...zens_group_rekindles_effort_to_stop_violence/

Of course, who can see the name "Citzens for Safety" and not think of Lewis S. Dabney?

I'm amazed to learn from the article that he was not the only member. Either he wrote hundreds of letters to the editor to the BGlobe each week, or they loved his tripe so much they printed everything he sent -- hardly a month would go by without one if his anti-self-defense rants.

He never missed a Gun Bill hearing at the Statehouse, either.

I'm also amazed that he wasn't mentioned in the article. If he's still around (~85yr), I'm sure he's feeling hurt that they seemed to have re-started the party without him.

Great, these jackasses are back[rolleyes].

Just like a bad case of foot fungus or crotch rot... you get rid of it for awhile but it eventually comes back... itching rash, cheesy oder and discharge, flaking, peeling and all the misery that goes along with it.

Yes. Nancy Robinson is rebirthing her MATH group as Citizens for Safety. The press release is at Boston Now:
http://www.bostonnow.com/news/local/2008/01/29/closing-the-039iron-pipeline039-of-gun-sales

If you have the stomach, you can listen to the longish interview at the bottom of the article. These days Nancy is confusing tainted spinach and hamburg, with banger-shooter crimes and "original criminal transactions". She's also confusing three-letter federal agencies, frex, the ATF with the FTA ?

These people have too much influence with our corrupt politicians in this state. It would be humorous, if they weren't trying to erase our rights.

force stricter background checks on gun purchasers

Have you ever been in a debate with someone who says this? You then ask them specifically how they would like it to be stricter and spend the next 10 minutes telling them "yup, already have that".

The ONLY place these people can come up with something 'new' is in private sales. And somehow they seem to think that criminals will seek out background checks on their illegal private sales. RIGHT...

Most of the time, if the person is at all reasonable, they have NO IDEA just how strict the current background checks are, and in particular how squeaky clean a license holder in MA is.

From their PDF brochure... (my comments in red).

Where did the gun come from? Builds Support for Solutions

Strengthen law enforcement ability to track crime guns

(Solution... ballistic database, micro stamping and/or serialized ammuntion)

Require background checks for all handgun sales

(Solution... Closing the "gunshow loophole" and FTF sales).

Prevent traffickers from buying handguns in bulk

(Solution... One gun per month)

Tighten reporting requirements for lost/stolen guns

(Solution... blame the victim)

Improve gun dealer training and regulation

(Solution... Burden and regulate gun shop owners to the point where they'll simply give up because it's not worth it anymore)

Increase penalties for illegal gun possession

(Solution... Community service along with a stern warning not to do that again).

Hey! That's Dabney in the back of the picture. He's not gone, after all.

If there are any regular BGlobe readers left, watch the Letters to the Editor section. He's bound to have one within three weeks.
[rolleyes]
