AWB Rejected by none other than...

very nice.

However, I do believe Coupe Deval may now accelerate his efforts before ppl catch on that all of this is a bad idea.

We need to keep the pressure on. Actually, lets double it.

My letters got stamps today.

It appears that they still haven't updated their site with Committee Member information.

ETA: When are we heading back to the State house steps?

There seem to be a lot of people, even here, who think they can be both pro-RKBA and politically left. News flash. It has never happened in human history that a leftist government has allowed the private ownership of firearms in the manner of the United States. No other government on earth has ever spelled it out in their founding document of government as the founders of this country did. There's a reason for that. Leftist policies of government require a government exclusive on the use of violence. They could not exist otherwise.

Once in a great while the mask slips off, and the naked face of tyranny is revealed. Such an occassion occured recently, in comments made by NY representative Jerrold Nadler:

“But let me say, yes,” Nadler added. “One of the definitions of a nation state is that the state has a monopoly on legitimate violence. And the state ought to have a monopoly on legitimate violence.”

I've had enough of making nice with so-called pro-RKBA left. When the chips are down, you know where their sympathies will lie.

Hell of a good point. Socialism requires tyranny. The level of control over the people requires that only the government be armed. It is such an unnatural and forced way of governing, that the right of the individual to be armed cannot exist. Armed men can defend their freedom. Unarmed men cannot. And socialism does not leave room for freedom.

This is great news but the fight ain't over!

Given Piers' abysmal ratings he will be off the air within months. I'm good with that.

I can't wait to see Piers "shit stick" Morgan crying tonight.

We've won this battle, but not the war. We need to keep the pressure on, especially at the state level. Look at MA and look at what happened in NY.

It's a lot easier to block bad laws than it is to remove them once they're passed.

Celebrate this victory, but keep your guard up.

I just thought of something. While this is no doubt good news, we all need to be diligent by reading incoming bills. They may try to insert an AWB into another bill while we aren't looking.

That's exactly the way I think we need to approach things in this state.

The "conservatives" who continue to want to thump their bible on the abortion issue are non-starters here - and it's screwing all of us.

This is exactly what I have been saying for awhile. If the Republicans would leave the bible thumping and quit attacking women's "rights" and just stand on the fiscal issues and the 2nd amendment they would stand a chance.

They're yapping about it but that doesn't mean it will actually happen. It still must be turned into a bill, still must get put on the table and so on. Expect a lot of "we dont like swinestines bill but... " lip service to go on.

The thing to watch out for is small bills being used as tack ons, McCarthy et al will probably try that sort of thing but it will probably fail, too, but it still could be dangerous.

Hope you're right. It's the limp-wristed RINOs in the House that worry me most. My fear is they'll look at tightening private sales as a good compromise so Obama doesn't call them mean names.

All the cool kids are in the purple quadrant. [smile]

It's not that simple. One of the core tenets of liberalism is hypocrisy. We want lots of laws and taxation, but we want it to apply TO EVERYONE ELSE. Refer back to Animal Farm: Some animals are more equal than others.

One of my favorite stories to tell, at times like this, is about some extreme left Obama freaks who, yes, are friends of mine. They run a business, and we had them do some work a few years ago, and let's just say that they made it clear that cash payment was both welcome, and that it would affect the total cost of the job in a meaningfully beneficial way. They did a great job. I'll let you infer the rest.

Hrm... Anyway, point being most people are vaguely megalomaniacal. They think that they can handle almost anything, but we need rules for everyone else.

Leahy is pretty gun-neutral. Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine have a gun culture. And the elected officials know this.

The full retard bill gets shot down so a half retard bill will look totally reasonable. Expect the next bill put up to sail to the floor quickly and easily. THAT is when the real fight will begin.

Yeah, I'm guessing magazine restrictions. If anything. But that won't get through the Senate. And if does? The firewall is the House which has a GOP majority and even a ton of Dems are pro-gun.

The AWB is done. Time for prices to finally come down!

Not sure what purple quadrant you were referring to, but, by the chart I saw, I meant "right-libertarian" - see previous posts.

^ This ^.

Also, realize that every time a copycat incident, or tragedy (that will be attempted to be connected, even by a very, very..................loonngggg stretch) = the rabid-emotional, anti 2A attack - WILL continue.

Guns and politics - and taxes - are intimately linked.

This is why I said you believe in something that never was and never can be.

I am either the master of my own body, the fruits of my own labor - and my own mind - or I am not. There really is no middle ground.

If I am forced by a government to give up some percentage of the money I earn thru exchange with others - or to surrender legally acquired property - then I am not fully in control of the fruits of my own labor - AM I? For some portion of my life I am essentially a slave. And that slavery is enforced at the barrel of a gun. Because if refuse - I will go to jail. If the enforcement arm of the government finds out that I would like to be fully in control of the fruits of my labor - and I simply refuse to comply and stop sending them money.......

PEOPLE WITH GUNS SHOW UP AND FORCE ME TO COMPLY.

The ability of a person to have a firearm - is a manifestation of political sovereignty. It means that that person DOES HAVE "ultimate power".

Saying that the free ownership of guns - unregulated by the government - and a "liberal" welfare state where people are FORCED to pay into the system - are fully compatible - is a unicorn dream. They are simply not compatible.

This is exactly why the United States were formed the way they were - with the Constitution they had - and with a seriously limited goverment. It's because true liberty - which means gun ownership - and only those taxes which are ABSOLUTELY necessary is only possible with a small government.

All other areas of the human condition - are NOT supposed to be solved by government action - they are to be solved by societal or individual action - and these do NOT have to be dependent on the government at all in a society that practices true liberty.

Your head is all messed up if you think that we can somehow have a society and country where people are taxed to death - and still enjoy free and open gun ownership. It's simply impossible.

And what I am saying, is that even with your guns, if you stop paying, and "they" show up, you won't do shit...

So where are you really.

How can a grown person be so stupid? [sad2] I'll never understand why someone would think what one person earns should be given to a 2nd person simply because they want or "need" it.

Public education; fire departments; national defense; OSHA; NASA; the interstate highway system; EPA; NTSB; paved roads; clean drinking water; public sewer; local, state, and national parks; etc.

Granted, none of those are perfect, and some have had some colossal failures and overreaches, but overall they do more good for all of us than harm, and nobody could pay for those functions on their own.

How do you imagine paying for those things?

Tweeet! Strawman argument, 5 yard penalty. At no point did he say or suggest anything like "taxed to death".

We live in a society, societies provide social and collective goods. They aren't free.

It's certainly possible to pave and maintain the roads, provide fire protection, clean water, a space program, etc, without infringing on individual rights.

Also, if you think that "conservatives" are any less interested in huge bloated budgets and taxes/fees to pay for them (or huge national debts) than "liberals", you're in a fantasy land.

I don't really see the distinction between taxing to pay for social programs and taxing to pay for commercial programs. Look at the corn lobby or the auto bailout or any oil company, or any of the failed banks that got a handout. Same shit different spices.

You obviously haven't met my friends. There's more than a few of us that would "do shit".

Great. So don't pay your taxes and we'll see how low your balls really swing.

What I am getting at is that all I asked was for you to take "liberal" away from "anti gun" and you can't.

So what ever. I have way better things to do than argue with you online about how there is some disconnect between my guns and my taxes.

Maybe I'll just resolve myself to the fact that all the site is good for is running group buys (I don't know if you noticed, but I just wrote a check for 12 grand for lowers) and picking up parts in the classifieds section.

Because we obviously can't have a discussion without my "liberalism" being called up.

By cutting back spending to only include those things covered by Article 1, Section 8. All others can be left up to the states.
