Harrisburg shooting spree suspect named, 'directly' targeted police and chased trooper: DA

Hours after three shootings resulted in a trooper shot and the suspect killed, police have released additional details about the shooter.

Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico identified the shooter as 51-year-old Ahmed Aminamin El-Mofty at a news conference late Friday night.

Though details about El-Mofty are being unraveled by investigators, Marsico said it "certainly appears that there's no doubt" he was targeting police officers.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the investigation. Marsico said EL-Mofty has ties to the East and West shore. El-Mofty also has ties to the Middle East, and traveled there recently, according to Marsico.

Fortunately these jihadists-jokers are mostly incompetent.

Who is Ahmed El-Mofty? 'He was really under the radar' before Harrisburg shooting spree

Indications are the man who was shot and killed in a gun battle with police in Harrisburg on Friday was a naturalized U.S. citizen who returned from a visit to the Middle East just weeks ago, Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico said Saturday.

"He was really under the radar," Marsico said. "We're starting to interview some of his acquaintances and some family members." A Camp Hill-area woman told PennLive Saturday that she is El-Mofty's estranged wife. She said she had not seen him recently and thought he had left the country.

El-Mofty came on the radar violently Friday afternoon when he fired shots that struck a Capitol Police cruiser, putting a bullet through the windshield in an apparently unprovoked attack near Third and Walnut streets, just outside the state Capitol complex and the Ronald Reagan Federal Building. The officer in that car wasn't injured.

Investigators said El-Mofty then chased and injured a female state police trooper before being killed by officers when he opened fire on them with two handguns at 17th and Mulberry streets. The injured trooper was released from the hospital Saturday.

Marsico said an immediate effort is focusing on fleshing out who the shadowy El-Mofty was. "We're trying to piece together his work history," he said. He said El-Mofty apparently worked in the security industry, but said investigators are still trying to determine where he was employed.

He said he did not know if El-Mofty was on any government terrorist watch lists. Marsico said he wasn't sure regarding El-Mofty's country of origin. The woman who said she is El-Mofty's estranged wife is a native of Egypt. Authorities have said El-Mofty had ties to the East and West shores.

El-Mofty was in the Middle East "as recently as October," Marsico said. He said he could not discuss where El-Mofty had been in that region, an issue that remains under investigation.

Yeah, no red flags here at all. This could have easily turned into Pulse 2.0 if the nutjob had selected a different target. The Trump Administration really needs to have a team go back and re-vet everyone let in or naturalized from suspect countries during the Obama Administration. It's clear to me there was a lot of rubber stamping and wishful thinking 2008-2016.

Pennsylvania police shootings were 'a terror attack,' DHS says - CNN

The Department of Homeland Security is calling a series of shootings targeting law enforcement in Pennsylvania a "terror attack."

Tyler Houlton, acting DHS press secretary, referred to the incident as a terror attack in a statement released Saturday. He said the incident highlights the "Trump administration's concerns with extended family chain migration."

El-Mofty was a naturalized US citizen who came to the country on a "family-based immigrant visa," Houlton said.
"Both chain migration and the diversity visa lottery program have been exploited by terrorists to attack our country," Houlton said, adding that "the programs make it more difficult to keep dangerous people out of the United States and to protect the safety of every American."
