Found my first one this weekend. Thought it was lint on my sock. Switched the dog to the pills this year, so it will be interesting to see if they work as well as the liquid stuff.

I just switched my dog from Frontline Plus liquid to Frontline pills when my kids found 4 fleas on our dog this fall while on Frontline Plus liquid. The cat had 1 or 2 also and she is still on Frontline liquid as they don't make pills for cats. We got her a flea collar that is working except it is a breakaway collar for safety and she has lost it.

We went full retard with flea bombs, washing linens and baths for dog and cat and since then we have seen no fleas. BTW, we read that chemical flea baths are no better than bathing pets in Dawn dishwashing liquid, lemon juice and apple cider vinegar. We found that mix to be effective. The vet said fleas drown quickly and easily so it's probably the water that actually kills them

As far as ticks, our dog got them here and there while on Frontline Plus liquid but not bad. Interesting to see how she does this year on the pills. The cat got them bad on her face, especially around her eyes. She loves going into the tall grass in back of our property to hunt. She has reduced the rodent population quite a bit in the two years we have had her. We started carefully applying Rose Geranium oil to her face and it helped a lot but not 100% and she smelled slightly funny up close, like flowers.

puled one off me this morning - had already dug in around the belt line but wasn't engorged. I think it hitched a ride in on the dog, fell off when the dog jumped on the couch, then bit into me when I laid down.

Was out scouting for whitetail today trying to learn a bit. Picked up a bunch of the little bastards. I always use Permethrin and it killed all but one. It must have gotten inside of my sleeve. But I felt it before it got a chance to settle in for lunch. Lots of them out there though...

Yep, found one on the dog a couple weeks ago. Nasty buggers. Got one of those flea and tick collars for him now. It worked well last year.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I knew I was meaning to do something, but couldn't remember what. This reminded me. Get some permethrin for my camping hammock.

Ran the dog the other day with the woodcock being back and have never seen ticks like this, ever.

Most were the bad deer ticks too. Only a couple dog ticks.

Got the dog cleaned up and found a few more on her as she was curled up. I told the kids to do some full body tick checks.

I have got to make a cheap POC test for Lyme.

Went to the doc a few years ago in the summer with flu like symptoms but no rash. I have crappy insurance that pays for only preventative so this was all out of pocket. He said I can pay several hundred dollars for a test but they are often inaccurate or I can just take some Amoxicillin and call it a day. I did that. Basically his logic was this, I live in rural CT, it's summer when the flu is not common yet I have flu like symptoms and I spend a lot of time outdoors, very high likelihood I had lyme's disease, treat accordingly. He saved me a crap ton of money.

The current test is total shit.. It's a Western Blot.. Like dark ages biochemistry crap. It doesn't do ANY of the autoimmune crap. And yeah.. It's not Lyme that's the problem.. It the raging S-Show of autoimmune issues that follow.

I wonder if the current regimen of treatment is appropriate now as well. It used to be that the CDC recommended Doxy for a year if you had Lyme. Now it's only prescribed for a few weeks. My mother has Lyme. They've put her on Doxy for a couple of times now. Symptoms go away and come back. I've read that Lyme can go dormant to escape antibiotics. I told her to get a referral to an infectious disease specialist.

permethrin

Brand Name & Source, please ?

These totally look like Ticks.

Keep in mind they change shape as they fill with blood.

From the Natick Outdoor Store. Amazon also carries this same brand.

Just got back from a cub scout camping trip, think 80 ticks got pulled off scouts and parents during the weekend. They really are bad this year.

This permethrin stuff is safe for kids? Thinking about picking some up to treat the tent and clothes before our next outing.

found a can of permethrin in my garage that is 2-3 years old. Still sprays well, anyone know if it is still good?
