they were damn lucky there was only one shot fired. I hope they were smart enough to give the newby shooter only one round in the chamber. That could have gone real bad real fast.
looks like some sort of an AR to me. Didn't look look a shotgun, which I know will come up on a unskilled shooter if they are not prepared for it, but never having shot a rifle... is that normal for it to come up on someone who doesn't know enough to keep it down?
That is a 4 bore double rifle the both barrels went off at once. According to another copy of the same incident this happened at Vintage Cup Y2K so I truely doubt he was a newbie shooter. I'm still looking for the websight where I read about this incident in detail.

Found it. The gents name is David Webber. Here is the link to his sight with pictures and video of THE VINTAGE CUP WORLD SIDE BY SIDE CHAMPIONSHIPS dating all the way back to 1999. The video came form the 2000 competition. You can see him shoot it proper and then the double.
