I’m somewhat with you here but I don’t think anyone (mostly) here is excusing police brutality. The first threads on the murder described it as just that; murder. Many NESers were full on board with protests but then it went sideways. Unfortunately, Looting started and when action taken to push back (tear gas, rubber bullets, etc.) against said crimes of opportunity started being portrayed by the media as way over the top, many called BS. Dude got murdered, people are rightfully pissed. Go protest! But if you get unruly or decide to break some stuff, expect a shove or a punch in the mouth, or a face full of OC. What many newcomers here fail to grasp is the ability to compartmentalize incidents and understand that one action may not be synonymous with another, and that lines of thinking can be wholly independent from one another.

Protest- good
Angry protest- go for it!
Looting and then whining- bad, and now we’re sick of your crap because you had an opportunity with an entire nation and community ready to listen and you freaking muffed it.

That is kind of how I look at it. I grew up poor in Minnesota with no father and was home alone while my mother worked 2-3 jobs to keep a roof over our heads, we were on welfare at one point and literally had blocks of .gov cheese in our fridge(that's how they did it in the 80's). I didn't choose to be born to a single 17 year old mother who was poor and on her own but it's the hand I was dealt. She busted her ass to keep me in sports, staying out of trouble and eventually in to the Marine Corps. In the Marines I saw other jarheads that came from similar situations. Brown, black, yellow, etc, it didnt matter. All of these guys were trying to serve their country and make their lives BETTER. The Marines doesn't make everyone a better person but I can bet my life on "If you want to become a better person, America and more specifically the military will make it happen."

These little commies protesting that "OMG Amerikkka is racist" have no f-ing clue what the rest of the world is like. If you can't make it here, you literally can't make it anywhere.

We once had the ability to have critical thinking prevail with parties on both sides curing disease and putting men on the moon. Now all we do is blame the other guy for crap that may be our own fault too.

I didn’t like it but I tried to understand it. We don’t do that anymore: trying to understand. We say we do when all we are about is thumbs up for our quip or witty put-down.

I’ve had rifles at my head overseas. I know what “real” riots look like. I know how I’ll act if someone threatens my home. I’ll respond with utmost violence unequivocally.

I understand that for some everything around them is the enemy causing them strife. I don’t side with Antifa nor militant BLMers, I equally don’t side with ignorant men waving flags while they try to justify someone’s civil rights being trashed; all in the name of this toxic patriotism that -oh yes- Trump and his as* kissers have created.

I have a friend ( Who is black btw ) who is the classic American success story.
His parents where poor as dirt.
The only way he was going to collage was to work his ass off to pay for it.
And he did , nights , weekends, every minute this guy wasn't in school he was working to pay for it.
You now have missile and rocket systems like the Patriot because of this guy.
It was a case of success through shear will.
Back then there was no affirmative action programs , no scholarship gimmies , nothing .

oppressed in America....oh that's rich. There is no systemic oppression in the US. Some may start life at the plate and others on third base due to their personal situations and family's socioeconomic situation but this is a country where every single person is offered a free education, free lunch at school, free cell phones and housing, automatic extra consideration if you can check a certain box etc etc. If people fail to ever pursue any of those opportunities then honestly f*** them. Maybe if black people stopped calling other black people Uncle Tom or "acting white" when they try to better themselves then things could improve in the black community. Maybe if some of the big mouth big money black athletes and entertainers stopped being hashtag warrior and used some of their money to build after school programs and rec centers to help at risk black youth things could change. Maybe if 70% of black kids weren't born into fatherless households things would be better, and yet all this shit is still somehow white people's fault. You keep talking about "this forum" like it's a Trump loving, R-only monolith. If you think that way, you're reading what you want to read. There are all kinds here. A few are as you imagine, but for the most part we're live-and-let-live small-"L" libertariains. I know I am. I love the protests. They're setting the stage for resistance to big government at every level. That's a good thing.

However, it appears that you assume that the people that disagree with the protestors are wrong. You need to consider which protestors they object to, and why. People that have mostly seen images of looting are going to be anti-looting (ARE YOU PRO LOOTING?), but those that have concentrated on the images of peaceful people open-carrying are going to be sympathetic to their cause.

Your thread title (SHUT YOUR MOUTH) is provocative enough to put people on edge. In a way, it pre-emptivitely insults everyone on this forum. That is an immature way to get attention, but it usually works. So be it.

You're largely preaching to the choir here. If you want real change, you're much better off going onto some democratic forum and asking why they want so many laws that prevent the oppressed from owning firearms. Unlike here, you won't last long if you're honest.

Whenever I think of this shit I think of my father in law. Came here dirt poor on a student visa from one of the poorest countries on earth and retired as the finance director for one of Harvard's colleges. He has 9 siblings and gives them shit tons of money to float them. He sends money back to the old country to help them. He owns a nice house in burlington, drives an S class and lexus big ass suv (whatever model that is), built one of the biggest houses back on the island and another in New Zealand (which he later sold). He also had a swastika carved by key into his car at the burlington mall and is unmistakably a "brown guy" though not "black".

My wife tells me that when they moved here from Alaska (after coming from the islands via Hawaii) by way of Frisco then Aurora CO, he came to boston first and stayed in a one room shithole by himself and busted his ass. My wife says that when he sent for them to come from CO, she remembers living in a decent but not spectacular apartment complex in andover and they only had one shitty car. My MIL would drive him into Cambridge at 6am and then pick him up from work at 10pm and my wife would often take that late trip in to pick him up. In those long hours he taught himself CFO level corp finance. He worked like an absolute dog because he was hungry and focused. He moved his life from his beloved, though poor island nation to 5 different US cities to chase a dream. That's an awful lot of hard work and sacrifice. His story is the epitome of the American Dream, and not just the good shit rewards part but the endless hours and grit that it takes to really make it big here. Still when they go to NZ people call my wife a "n*gger" etc. Yes, racism is real but there's no excuse to not do well in a country like this if you want to. He never decided to f*** off and throw in the towel just because some c*** keyed a swastika in his car. He never felt bad for himself and pulled any of this poor me shit because of racism. If anything it just motivated him to work harder than everyone else around him.

The reality is no one can break your family's shitty cycle for you. My FIL decided he didn't want to be poor forever on an island. My wife has a black friend raised by a doped up single mom and he's a lawyer now. He also could have just continued the cycle, joined a gang and become a shitbag. Change has to originate within the black community itself. White people cannot fix problems for the black community. Sure we can get on board with overhauling the police in this country, we've all been bitching about the militarization of police forever. But we can't make black guys stop abandoning their families, we can't make them seize the opportunities in front of them. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
