SHTF reading

Finished Lightning Fall today. Really hope there's a sequel pending soon.

Started The Perseid Collapse. Pretty good so far, but you still have to have a tolerance for some gun retardation just like the first book, like "maybe we should keep a round chambered" and constant talking about putting safeties on.

Stephen King is really bad that way. I think it was in under the dome he was talking about safeties on Glocks.

Read them all. 5 bucks each, well worth the entertainment.

I thought they were all pretty good - definitely worth the time reading. Good story lines and in many case, I thought, hard to put down.
They also had some good survival pointers to take note of. The fourth one mentioned above, talks about how to make soap and a couple of other things.
I'm about 1/3 through it already and enjoying the read.

Found this website - which keeps an up-to-date listing of $0 kindle books at Amazon

http://hundredzeros.com/

Searched for Zombines and came up with this list:
http://hundredzeros.com/?s=zombie

Picked up Slow Burn #1 a few weeks ago for $0 and was a good read
Just downloaded Affliction Z as the review looked good.

Sure you can search for a couple of other genres as well

Read all of the Slow Burn books available in the last couple of weeks. They were a lot of fun, with some interesting takes on the zombie theme.

This one was a lot of fun, takes place in Manchester. Could have been a lot better, but it was free: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LCJHJCK/ref=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o01_?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Search worked for "SHTF" as well:

I think Breakers and The Survivors are well rated books - think I will snag them.

Thanks! Will have to check it out

The Survivors series(Angela White) was ok for the first 3 books or so, but just got straight up weird, and IMO, unreadable. Too much soap opera, and too much effort to tie scattered story lines together. Not much good, useable information to be had either. Just my $.02

In those search results though, was one of Lloyd Tackitts Distant Eden Series. That was a solid read all the way through. I think it's been mentioned in this thread a couple of times, but worth it to mention again.

I just finished Half Past Midnight. Good book. Taking a break from SHTF and listening to Socialism by Ludwig Von Mises. It's good.

I just finished Forsaking Home. I never felt like the series went downhill at all. It does seem like this book kind of wrapped things up, which I like. Some of these series can just go on and on. I think Breakers falls into that category. I stopped reading halfway through the fourth (I think) book, as it was just weirdness. I draw the line at space aliens who team up with the Asian mafia. But that's just me.

I'm listening to surviving home now. meh, i think i could write something better lol. i think lights out is the benchmark that i use to judge all these other novels. the going home series just seems rushed.

I am about halfway through 'Bugging Out - The First Book in the Bugging Out Series':

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846

The title made it sound kinda stupid, so instead of buying it I used my Prime membership to borrow it for free.

It actually has some unique things going for it. First, the apocalypse that takes place in this book is not an EMP, financial collapse, fuel shortage, out of control government, or pandemic. It is a blight that destroys all crops and other plant life, very rapidly. It makes for some chilling imagery.

The other thing that is slightly out of the ordinary for these types of books, is that this is a guy who just runs off on his own. No family, no prepper group, nothing. It's sort of like Robinson Crusoe goes to Montana with a truck load of MREs.

I am looking forward to seeing how this progresses. I cant imagine how you come back from the loss of all plant life, enough to make it through multiple books.

KJakarta Pandemic... Yes/No?

Yes. I really enjoyed that one. Nothing too exciting, but the best part to me was the interaction between the neighbors when. Supplies started running out. It wasn't the best SHTF book I have ever read but it's solid and worth the time.

I'm knee deep in Surviving Home right now and enjoying it.

KJakarta Pandemic... Yes/No?

Absolutely. It's cool because it takes place in Maine, they talk about what a craphole Lawrence, MA is, and the writing is pretty good.

The sequels that came out last fall are worth reading too, but only after the original. The Perseid Collapse, and I forget the next one... There are some cool Boston scenes in those.

I've been on a marathon with the Jakarta/Perseid books for the past week and a half. On the third Perseid book right now, so the jury is still out, but so far it has been a very cool series. Especially considering the regional aspect. Reading the part that takes place in Boston was pretty cool, since it was easier to envision the scenes.

Oh and stay far away from "Nine Meals To Anarchy: A Prepper's Educational Thriller." Even someone with an overactive imagination couldn't come up with some of the BS that the main character pulled off in that book. The editing is so bad that there are actually two chapter thirteens in the book. [rofl]

Another one I got suckered into getting on the kindle because of it's price was "Dark Days: The long road home." Picture romance novel meets disaster scenario. Awful.

I agree, great first couple of books but then they get weighed down in a bunch military jargon and our once drug salesman is now a marine captain. A little too much.

Stoked - 299 Days is in pre-sale on Audible, release date of 10-26-14.

God, I hope its not another "Holding Their Own" recording session in someone's bathroom, read by someone who reads like a 5 year old [smile]
