Hey, i would like to get involved. I have never shot rifle competition before, or down at Scarborough. (just at Falmouth).

What do i need? Iron-sighted AR15 and ammo for service rifle?

Here's a link to the CMP rulebook:
CMP rulebook

As of 2005, the only M16/AR15 variants that are legal for use in the service rifle are:

- M16A2
- M16A4 with carry handle
A2 or A1 buttstock.

Also legal:
- M1 Garand
- M14 (M1A)

If you have a variation that isn't service rifle legal you can still shoot in the NRA matches, you're just moved into the match rifle class.

I'll try to post some more info and/or links when I get a chance. It's allot of fun and there's a good group of guys at Scarborough. My wife and I also shoot at Falmouth.

TonyD has a great post in this section:

Due to the heavy rains and the flooded conditions of the range, the annual Mauser Match has been postponed from Sunday, 1 May 2005 until Sunday, 15 May 2005.

Schedule above updated to reflect the change.

Is the Operation Starlight Commemorative Match open to all Vietnam era/style guns or exclusively firearms built and used in that era? The reason I ask is that I have a preA1 style AR15 but the lower reciever is a recent mfg. Thanks. Jon

Sorry for the delay in the response, I haven't checked this tread in a while.

The match is open to any firearms that are in the correct configuration as used in Vietnam. They are not requred to have been manufactured during that era. I have a Colt SP1 upper that I'll be using on a new LMT lower with an A1 stock.
