random computer info

Well i've spent most of today, and lost a great shooting day I might add, at fixing what could be wrong with this POS. Monday has a call to the fat, nerdy tech guy in order to see what he thinks. Could be the only thing is to upgrade and go for broke. I just waited 25 seconds for a picture I posted in the milsurps section to load. [sad2]
On a side note.... if any of you get ridiculous spam adds for Korean porn from my IP, Reinbeau was right and i'm indeed infected with spamming bugs and sorry in advance.[laugh] At least I can laugh at my misery.

Gotta love Commercial Service!

As for the Tequila, you need to try Patron Silver. VERY smooth.

I was reading your numbers and saying "WTF" then I see you have commercial. Still good numbers though. Looks like with the exact numbers they have you locked down and you can probably increase even more for more $$$.

Yea, those numbers are OK. Still don't hold a candle to the wired gigabit speed inside the house. (^_^) And No Derek, I can't just spend more $$$. That's the fastest service Comcast will allow me. But you are correct in that I'm obviously not on a very busy segment, or there is a lot of bandwidth available.

5221 / 355 for me in NJ, looks like it will be lower going with Adelphia after the move. People in windham report about 3000 / 256 on DSLreports.

2584/684 for me out of Verizon. I wouldn't use Adelphia if it were free.

Unfortuntely it looks like Adelphia is the only choice: Verizon doesn't have high speed yet where I am moving to. A positive is that the local office seem to know what they are doing are were really responsive about going out to the house site and getting us logged into their computer system.

Have you tried Windows Defender and Spybot? Those both help a bit as far as the spyware issues. I find my Symantec Antivirus actually slows things down significantly just by running in the background.

Well heres a little info I received from a friend who has a friend that works at Verizon (both of these guys have Comcast btw)
I heard that Verizon was closing some of their hubs and have been routing customers to ones further away. If you are more than 1.5 miles away from a hub, you'll get a big decrease in speed. Not to mention the more people that are tapped into that hub, the less signal you get, yet you still pay the same price either way. Not to mention the diference in kb/mb you get with each. No matter what, i'll know by Friday night if Comcast was right for me. I hope it works. It'll be good to get back into the world of Call of Duty and shoot people in the head from 250 meters away with an open sight K98 rifle again. [smile]

Well I got Comcast today and its miles above Verizon. My d/l speed on most Call of Duty servers is up by over 300% and images load so fast the computer can barely keep up. Definitely an improvement.

I wish I could play Call of Duty again.

Why can't you? Is it your PC specs?
My computer is so bare bones I could probably get the same performance with a Colecovison and a B&W tv and I can run Call of Duty and United Offensive pretty smoothly. Theres quite a few places with PC tips on how to get your game to perform as best as you can.

I've turned my office in to my reloading room... No room for my desktop anymore. I will probably buy a new one this fall once highpower is over. I love FPS... [sad]

When you do get back online with COD make sure you let me know. I'm an Admin member of one of the highest rated COD UO clans and will make room for you on our servers if you get in touch with me on our team speak. I'll give you the adresses when you're ready.
Everyone in the clan is buzzing over Red Orchestra but they all still play COD UO with the modern weapons mod we run. Nothing like running around in a WW2 Russian uniform in 1940s settings with a silenced MP5, tricked out K98 sniper rifle with red dot reticle, and a full auto Mac10.[smile]

slow computer

Aside from cleaning out your unused files and links along with de-fraging your hard drive (tools are in the accesory section) you may want to download "spybot". It's an anti-spyware program.

the tower has been on for 2 weeks now, I was thinking I would get a worse report.. lol

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
some things to note, Webroot Window Washer is well worth running and also ParetoLogic XoftSpy. They are not bad for prices, and if your running windoz... they keep the system up and running. Then again, you can run a unix box like I do on the side and not worry about the flaws that win has..

and now for the good part.....last year took the optic router to the range....
.40S&W won.... lol
