Wondering what people think. Can or is there any COMPLETE UPPERS including bcg out there for 500 or under? These don't need to be uppers that you would go to war with. Just ones that will work and perform well without breaking the bank.

If you could push just 40 dollars more, you could get what is considered to be "one of the best" if not "the very best" AR15 upper money can buy:

BCM

Their "standard" uppers are $400, and their complete BCG's are $140.

Considering the fact that their products are made with the best materials, and tested beyond most manufactures seals the deal with many people easy.

I always look on BCM's website and can never seem to find any uppers for 400. I see 16 in for 489 then you add in bcg brings it over 600 plus cost to pin and weld muzzle break.

As of current: These are their 16 inch ans 14.5 inch uppers for $399.00:

Of course, as I made this list for you, I noticed these are all out of stock at the moment, so that obviously doesn't work. Does tell you something about them though... Best Uppers out there at a decent price.

Back in early December I scored a complete Daniel Defense flat top upper for $499.00 from Smartgunner.com.

Right now they have a Daniel Defense custom built flat top upper for $409.00

The BCG and handguards are extra BUT that's still a pretty smokin' hot deal. Mine shoots like a freakin' lazer beam.

IIRC "they" are a one man shop and might get slowed down from time to time but I received mine just over a week after ordering it.

YMMV.

BCM if you can swing slightly over $500 ( and its in-stock) or Spikes if you're on a tight budget.

I had a less than stellar experience with BCM's customer service, but they do have an excellent reputation for quality.

Do tell. Feedback is good. I know it is IMPOSSIBLE to get BCM people on the phone myself.

del-ton makes som inexpensive complete uppers

I've used Del-Ton uppers on e a few builds for the price/quality. They arn't uppers I would take to war, but I would def rely on them as a good quality upper for the money.

Inexpensive and quality are not 2 words I would combine for a complete upper. It's usually one or the other.

I ordered one of their stripped M4 uppers, it was in rough shape; inside where the BCG rides was deeply scratched up and the anodizing all over looked awful. The second issue I could have over looked, but it seemed like someone took a sharp pick or something similar and went to town on the inside.

I contacted them by email and got an RMA, sent it back (on my dime) and they emailed me a few days later telling me "That's how they are, you should go to a gun show and hand select an upper or get a billet piece.", and then decided they'd just refund me, minus a restocking fee without consulting me. I would have been happy if they just took the extra 2 minutes to pick one out of the production line that was in good shape (free of major scratching inside) to replace the poor quality unit. No effort to retain or satisfy me as a customer, basically told me to pound sand instead of working with me.

I then wrote them a 3 page letter professionally and politely laying out my experience and dissatisfaction in dealing with them and didn't get so much as an email or phone call in apology.

That sucks. That would make me not want to order from them

A massified Spikes M4 upper will set you back $625 shipped. It's about $540 shipped if you leave the lug and flash hider on it. I have one of their uppers, and I couldn't be happier.

They come complete with BCG (M16) and a buffer (carbine)

That is an excellent deal.

This is worth considering also, though it's over budget: http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2011

If you are in no rush, on Gunbroker I sometimes see Colt uppers (off of the Colt Defense line) in the $450-500 range. These are with MPI bolts and barrels and are sometimes brand new. If you don't mind used, you can get full auto Colt Defense kits minus the lower receiver and auto sear in the 500-700 range depending on condition.

I was going to start a thread just like this I am in the same boat.
cass1776 if you get a upper before I do let me know how you make out. I will do the same.

You might want to give this website a look see. They offer a pretty good variety. They have been at most of the BigE shows. They had complete uppers for $500 floating stainless 24" bbl with cbg 5.56 chamber 1/9 or 1/8 twist (I can't remember).

+1 for Spikes....they can be had cheaper than above if you shop around too.

+1 for Spikes as well. Building a complete AR-15 using Spikes. Has some of the best customer service i've dealt with. They answered some questions I had in their forum on a Saturday night! I can't think of any other company that is willing to help out potential customers on a Saturday night!
