Do any of the Massachusetts gun clubs offer public range time without having to be a member? I have a very limited time to actually go to a range and shoot and the high cost of a club membership makes no sense for me. Are there any ranges that will allow a licensed gunowner to shoot at their range without a membership?

Have you looked into one of the many ranges that offer 24/7 access indoors? Might be an option if your time is limited.

Mass Firearms in Holliston is $20 an hour for the indoor pistol range. What area of the state are you in? people can chime in if they know a general area.

If you know people who are members of clubs, ask them once in awhile to take you as a guest, you buy the coffee! Depends on where you are. Good luck.

Honestly, I would join a club. It's worth it just for the fact you can go anytime you want and not have to scratch around for someone to take you. I would bet the majority of club members anywhere only use the facilities less than once a month.

If MFS is at least $20 per trip, and many 24/7 indoor clubs run $150/ year, then you just need to ask yourself whether you want to shoot more than seven times a year, or less than seven times a year.

Only you know the answer to that.

Cape Ann Sportsmans club in Gloucester has public shooting every Sunday from 9am-1230. I believe it is $20 per person.

On the 16 yard line, shootin' for the Lewis!
OP:

First, the answer is "No" as a general position, as Clubs are not businesses. If it's not for the benefit of the members they don't do it.

Second, the Businesses mentioned above are not 24/7 as the number of walk-ins at 3:00 AM would not justify the staff costs.

Third, in the PRM, the business model that has evolved over time is what you have, now.

Solution: If you can't float 100-150 a year for Club membership, you will have to shoot VERY little at a pay-to-play place, because of the hourly fees. List your general location, and you will get good suggestions.

My Club is $100/year. That's $2/week. Indoor range 24/7 with any non-magnum pistol calibers being OK. Plus, if you need expertise, there's another Member that will help you. My kid and I are on the Gallery Pistol team......we both are noobs (it's NOT my sport, and I have the targets to prove it! [laugh]), and the other experienced shooters are quite free with their time and advice. I reciprocate with Trap advice.

I'll second Bob's in Salisbury, but you might want to avoid weekends, seen some poor gun handling/muzzle sweeping there.

And congrats on your first post after 5 years on NES![wink]

Not all clubs are high cost. Some are actually quite low but they do not offer many activities but they still have a range for shooting.
Most of the smaller towns with small clubs especially ones out in the country are quite reasonable.
Brookfield Rod & Gun club is only $35.00 a year for an individual.

Bob's Tactical is downright scary if you go there at the wrong time. Right after I got my LTC a few years ago I went in there to rent some guns. Biker beard dude behind the counter is showing porn or something to his buddies on a laptop. I rented a Ruger Mk3 that would light strike half the time and a Sig P226 that wouldn't lock into battery. As I was shooting a couple guys trying to impress a couple girls came in, and were laughing nonstop while they hit the floor and ceiling but not the man-size target they had at 10' away from them. No range officers or supervision to be found. I hightailed it out of there.

In their defense, the next time I went in there everyone acted very professional and a different guy behind the counter was angry that biker dude didn't make me sign a waiver the first time.

So true.
I had a group of Asian kids pointing Glocks at me that didn't speak English. I was shooting a much louder gun and I scared them .

Cool story bro

I wasn't there but I won't go there weekends or nights. It's one of the only public ranges and most likely you will encounter no to little experience under no supervision. Just my opinion

It's the only place to go north of Boston.

You ever been there?
If you have you'd realize they used to let any one handle guns .
So a group of early 20's Asian tourist that have never been around guns and know no safety rules is far fetch.only one barely spoke English. so how did they get a saftey lesson ?
I was in the last lane shooting my 1911 cause I just got my ltc. My friend tells me to turn to my right and the group is looking at me . 3 of them had the Glocks they rented pointed at me .

I've been in there and watched people load a mag and as soon as the slide closed they shoot the wall.
Watched people load the gun facing the counter 180 deg from down range.
Rented guns from them and they where broken.

I don't know what changes they made since the last person who offed them self there . But it was really only safe to go during the winter at night when only other people there belong to a out door range.

American firearms School in North Attleboro is a place i like to goto. 20 bucks a hour/session. Decent enough rental list if there is something you might want to try. THE only place that is an indoor range and does not mind me shooting my mosin with surplus stuff.

i've been there, still go there, i think things might have changed. i know a ton of crazies might go at like peak times when its like a friday night or saturday night. i like the staff there and i think they're nice people. I myself got a slap on the wrist when a sig employee handed me a p320 and i got so excited i forgot the staff member was standing to my left. I think they're more aware now. Though i have to agree, i did see bullet holes in the wall facing away from the range, was wondering where those came from.

Other than Mass Firearms School Holliston and American Firearms School in North Attleboro I don't think there are any public ranges. Clubs are so cheap to join I would just do that. Mine had a 24/7 indoor if you dont have time and the price is so cheap.

I bought a gun at Bob's in Sept and got free time on range as part of it. There was just some French girls on the range, and they kept looking over at me and flinching when I fired. Did the reasonable thing and offered to let then shoot my gun under my supervision, they were very appreciative. Then again I have only gone in the middle of a work day, so the show off crowd isn't around. However , I joined a club because hourly gets pricey quick. Plus I you go to a pay range then you want to rent new toys ...

That was my problem...I had to try every gun they had.....it's ok in that sense but cost gets up there when you fire everything
