Pepper spray permits/ view from a LO

The local media is beginning to spin this and saying, (I'm paraphrasing this): "We have to think this out carefully. It wouldn't be in the best interest of the community, if 'anyone' could purchase pepper spray. We could be inviting assaults on citizens by people who should not have access to it."... Huh?!?

Do they even listen to what they are saying??? [rolleyes]

This is a testament to why I am not a liberal - I just do not want to go through the necessary frontal lobotomy to become one.

I could go to Home Depot, Walmart, or the local supermarket and get stuff that is MORE dangerous to use on people if I was a dirtbag.

No it is better to have innocent woman get raped and killed then to let them exercise their God given right to attempt to defend themselves. [puke]

...no officer who is not a ball buster is going to gig her for a little key chain pepper spray especially after that whole thing in Boston the other week.

I don't know about that. We attended student/parent orientation day at Framingham State last month, and it was made quite clear that if a student was caught with even a little key chain pepper spray, it would be treated the same as a student caught carrying a firearm on campus. "Campus Officer Friendly" was quite proud of the fact that escorts are available between the hours of 2 am-5 am for anyone who feels they may be in danger.

There were quite a few "WTF looks" from the out of state parents with that revealation.

I think the other 49 states allow you to carry pepper spray when there. The only law they have is don't use it unless it's an emergency. Pretty simple.
Of course, they all think we are going around shooting each other for no reasons.

Well, why did our "representatives" define pepper spray as "ammunition"? What needs to happen is this: an unlicensed student has to be assaulted and successfully defend herself with some "illegal" pepper spray on campus. Then be charged. Hopefully the public outcry...never mind. This is Massachusetts.

Note to self: Develop a line of muzzle brakes that make whistling sounds with the vented gas(and flash hiders. Don't want to miss out on the free state market). The slogan will be"I told him to stop. When he didn't, I blew my whistle at him. All 230 grains of it"

I feel like kind of an idiot for asking this, but is "LO" referring to licensing officer in this context? I couldn't tell from the OP.

Very well said, and is exactly how I feel about. My daughter who is only 12 and well supervised at this point WILL have it when the time comes that she is more autonomous whether or not it is approved by the powers that be. Her safety is of utmost importance to my wife and myself so if we need to bend the rules to that end, so be it. I also fully plan to introduce her to the world of firearms as well when the time comes, even though my wife isn't quite on that page yet. I have already started educating her on safe handling, as well as explaining how they operate mechanically. Haven't been able to bring her to the range yet, but plan to in the near future once I can convince my wife that she is old enough to be educated in firearms use safely.

Forget convincing the wife - she's your kid too. Educate, man, with no further delay!

Ours is twelve also, and a good shot. OC spray time is rapidly approaching.

Screw that, thats insane..sounds like they want there students to also be victims. And does anyone feel safe in Framingham at 2am?... But that is also coming from a campus that doesn't allow there own campus police to carry firearms last time I checked, guess they want to be the only ones with pepper spray since that's there only use of force option..

The law banning pepper spray on campus also lays out misdemeanor charges for anyone looking the other way if they come across a person carrying.

There is plenty of room up here. I was only a gun owner in MA for a little over 2 years, and that was enough for me. I got out of there, and will never go back.

Liar. I saw you in Sterling yesterday.

Why did you leave Worcester? We've got City Square, possible slots coming, a giant H problem, our own strain of herpes, and Main South, and no guns for good guys. WHATS NOT TO LOVE?

And don't forget Chief Gemme. Great 2A fan.

Why didn't anyone set him straight instead of just making facial expressions?

better yet, incorporate the whistle design into the front of hollow points. This way the bullet will make a whistling sound as it travels towards the scumbag. (Pat.pending) [smile]

There is a large ratio of "ball busters" in the glorious commonwealth.

I would never cite someone who had pepper spray who didn't have a permit, unless it's some shit bag who has no use for it besides to start problems( ie ) a drug dealer, sex offender ect.. I'm not going to cite a female who has a key chain pepper spray who is just tryin to not to be raped and murdered. What would I say? " sorry mam, I know your scared or being killed, but you must give the state there $25.00 and go through a complete background check, so in the mean time here's your ticket for $300.00 and try not to be raped. This is funny because my girlfriends sister lives in the Boston area and recently obtained some pepper spray..no clue how ;)? And she was worried about not having the permit. I told her if she is that worried go to Boston pd and apply for the permit but be ready to wait months in the mean time. And told her that no officer who is not a ball buster is going to gig her for a little key chain pepper spray especially after that whole thing in Boston the other week. Worry about yourself and if your ever have to use it and they gig you for it, atleast your alive to pay the ticket...I don't know about your but my life is worth more than 300$

YOU might not jack someone up for it, but if you work for a PD then you almost certainly know at least one officer on the job who would jack up his own mother for jaywalking! Every PD that I've worked with or for has at least one ******* with a badge!

When a Newtown happens they all jump up and down ranting that we have to do something, RIGHT NOW!

When the issue is relaxing stupidity to save lives . . . don't be too rash, let's have a study committee and think this thru for 5 or 10 years before deciding to do NOTHING!

Campus Police is a very different job than city/town Police! I say this from experience in both. They see kids do incredibly stupid stuff, very dangerous stuff and life-threatening stuff . . . and over time many react such that "we can't trust these immature clowns" becomes their MO for enforcement.

At the college I worked at we had:

- A kid doing a swan-dive from the 3rd floor porch of a house,
- Grabbing fire extinguishers and spraying down the hallways of a dorm,
- Kids jacking the back doors open of the dorms so they didn't have to walk in the front door and show IDs. Resulting in a perp getting in and raping a co-ed in the dorm. The result of this was the student gov't demanding more police presence in the dorms and I was hired with about 20 others to work as Aux POs on Thursday thru Sunday nights (1900-0300 hrs) every weekend. The kids still jacked open the doors!
- Perp with machete gets in a brawl in the dorm parking lot.
- Perp with ill intent sneaks into a dorm and hides out in a laundry room.
- Setting off fire alarms from burning pop-corn in a microwave was a common event.
- There were a few murders on campus.
- One student returning to the dorm drunk, wanting a fight and assaulting 3 of our officers in the lobby. He was told to leave with his buddy and come back later when he sobered up, instead he came very close to being arrested for A&B on a police officer (very justified). We finally got his buddy to drag him out of there.
- The above is just what I remember off the top of my head.

5 squirt for us vs 15 for LEOs

Some states were (are) limiting the percentage of OC (the "pepper" in pepper spray) available to civilians. Pure Mace (actually tear gas in liquid form) is no longer offered in a defensive spray, but can be had, by the pros, in a combo Mace/OC package. They are also incorporating a semi-permanent dye in some brands.

You used to be able to get around it by purchasing "bear spray". I don't know if you still can

Barely got your feet on the ground and already the holier-than-thou shit. Really!

Come on man.

I have an idea. Run away. Once you start running from fights, it gets easier.
ffy.

You know what they say, "Lead, Follow, or shut the **** up and mind your own business."

If I were you I'd be worrying about keeping the Libtards living in condos in Stripmallland [AKA SNH] from changing your laws, and supporting those of us with the stomach to fight even if you don't want to. Call it containment, if you like.

This is a great opportunity to explain to people who want pepper spray that under current law, they will be mug shot, fingerprinted, will be responsible for reporting to the state criminal records board any time they move, and the spray will be illegal once that license expires. They are almost universally outraged, and we get the opportunity to channel that outrage against these government intrusions.

I've been able to have literally ten times the number of conversations about this government intrusion due to pepper spray laws in the last week than I have about firearm licensing in the last month.

This is a HUGE opportunity for lawful gun owners to inform friends, family and neighbors, to come across as serious, thoughtful, and law-abiding instead of being "gun nuts."

Don't let the do-nothings stop you. Call, email, tweet, post on Facebook, contact your reps.

The women of Boston - including our wives, daughters, friends, and neighbors - now have their personal security at the forefront of their minds and have discovered the Commonwealth has NOT acted in their best interests. The Governor and anti-reps are now on the defensive, trying to explain how this was ever a good idea. I can't wait for the hearing August 2 in Springfield.

Sadly, nothing we do will bring back Amy Lord.

+1 for your post. Gun owners need to view this as an opportunity to educate the sheep. When someone expresses outrage at the restrictions on pepper spray I'm quick to point out to them that it's not nearly as bad as being a gun owner in the PRM.

Liberals and statists seldom let a crisis go to waste. We need to borrow that page from their playbook and rub their noses in the mess that their stupidity has created. It's time for some "justice for Amy Lord" and others like her that are made victims by our legislators.

Says the man from Manchvegas.

Explain how that helps us change the laws in MA in any way?

Lead, follow, or mind your own business.
Part of the job here in MA is to help those who haven't been outside the fence what free America looks like.

If you come from outside or spend much time away, it should be strikingly obvious how broken this state is. That is how it helps, by pointing out to those who may not be able to see it having waded through it for so long and having become numb to it. This state and its leadership should be mocked. They are bad and they should feel bad and people need to stop tolerating this nonsense from the people they elect.

There are 49 other states out there that do not require a license to own a gun in your home for example. Just one example of a litany of laws this state has to earn it the "everything is illegal in MA" motto.

Who was your favorite coach, the one who said you suck and should quit, or the one who said, "Keep working, you're getting better."

I've lived in Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and New Hampshire, myself. Lived in "Green license plate NH" when a Democrat was a rare bird. NH residents should start paying attention to what is going on at home instead of worrying about us.

I don't think that ad hominum negative, pessimistic, defeatist comments do anything to help those who want change.

And to the extent that they dissuade gun owners in MA from taking proactive steps like writing and calling their reps and testifying at hearings, they are hurting the cause. Anyone who thinks the antis are invincible hasn't talked to many of them.

I've been talking to Senate candidates, mayoral candidates. House candidates - and they are listening. Here's a shocker - politicians like to win elections they are in, and sometimes put careful thought into their positions. And when you give them a way to position themselves favorably, they're all ears.
