In another post Nickle talked about where his name came from. I told about how in another group I belong to, it was important to signify where I was from. That got me thinking about what others here do while not shooting...

I'll start.

Aside from shooting and guns, I am also a Bonsai artist. I'm sure most know but for those who don't, Bonsai is the Japanese art of miniature trees. The word Bonsai literally translates from Japanese to "Tree in pot" It is a very time consuming art-form, and in my opinion the hardest of all forms of art. The art itself is ever changing and evolving, and to keep the tree small, and the form that is visually correct and pleasing is hard. There is no instant gratification in Bonsai, if I trim a branch to get it to grow in a different direction, it could very well be another 3-5 years before I will see the results of the change. It is something that I love, and I am nowhere near the best, but I do my best and am usually happy with the results I receive. I have studied with several professional Bonsai masters from both here in the states and from Japan.
BTW the correct pronunciation of Bonsai is "Bone-sigh"

So, what about the rest of you?

Adam

PS. Adding the MA to the end of my name was necessary because the forum I visit is folks from all over the world, and they need to know the area you are growing your trees to give advice.

SCUBA Diving - I'm sort of burned out on cold water diving, but still put up with it at depth.

Photography - Although I use digital for casual stuff, I still like film, preferably B&W, whenever I'm serious.

Pretty funny... I love my scooter too, and I am PADI certified and love taking pictures (mostly of my trees) with a back drop, reflectors and the such!

1997 Softail custom. I had a 96 sportster that I rode for 1 season then traded it in at the end of the season and put my 97 on order.

I surf. the waves are small in the summer when there isn't a hurriccane. I also surf all year around. [lol] <- thats my lips still schivering from last winter.

Hmm...

When I'm not shooting, I'm Secretary of a Masonic Lodge. I also collect & repair antique watches, and ride my 86 BMW R65.

I used to knit chain mail, and fight in the heavy lists in the SCA. And one of these days Real Soon Now, I'll go back to shooting archery... recurve, of course.

I'm all about reading, writing, listening to music and hanging out with friends.
I don't collect anything. Though I do want more guns. I only have 4 of my own and feel somewhat lacking because of it.

(and to be honest, durring the winter, its drinking... i dont drink a drip from spring / fall, but durring the winter, no motorcycle, less eager to go shooting, its off to the clubs for some drinks and dancing, ut ow, look out, white boy dancing)....

Motorcycles..strictly sportbikes.I am going to get a R1 for next summer.

I used to love to go backpacking in the Sierra Nevada's of California.Catching wild Golden trout and admiring all the evolution that takes place in that area.Unless you have been backpacking above 10k feet, you have never backpacked 8)

Snowboarding in the winter time, again I haven't done much since moving here because there are no real mountains east of the Rockies.Been to a few major resorts in VT and went down what was classified as double black diamonds, they would warrant a a blue square at Tahoe resorts.I used to teach snowboarding at Lake Tahoe(Kirkwood to be exact) and powder days were my real passion in life.

Now all I do is complain about the humidity and gun laws and wish I had the cash for a bike right now.

Hobbies: War for Souther Independence reenactor. Sewing. Used to paint a lot and sold a few landscapes, but not for a few years. Horseback riding (hunt seat, jumping and western). Reading. And lately, this forum. :D

And, over the past couple of years interests have basically focused on hand surgeries, medical procedures and stress tests. [roll]

Lets see, sewing, reading, embroidery, guns,4 wheeling,Glenn got rid of the built up rig for rock crawling,so now we will be taking it easy and not doing the really extreme stuff. Shooting, and trying my hand at needlepoint.

Wow, well I don't really know.

I love my guns...and am always trying to learn more about them. How they work, fixing them, ect.

Just got into Cowboy Shooting. And it's something that I don't stop thinking about. I've never had so much fun.

My Jeep. I don't do much with it. I was into 4x4's when I was in High School. Had many, my favorite was my Toyota FJ40. And I've had many Jeeps. But about 3 years ago, I bought my first TJ. I was going to trick it out, and my wife got pregnant. So it's been on hold. I think that now I'm going to start working on it again.

I love taking Pictures, but I'm by no means a photographer. But, I have cameras that would make people think that I am. But that was only because of a break in.

They replaced the cameras that were stolen with ones that I'm a little weary about using. LOL! We went from a Cannon A2e to a EOS3. But I picked up a Digital 300D so we could use all the same lenses.

I've been meaning to get into a class, but I just haven't had the time.

Like TYPEO1313, I love my job. I really even like most of the people that I work for. So I end up spending a lot of time here.

I used to brew my own beer. Also haven't done that in a long time. But I do love beer.

And cooking. That's been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.

I can sit around and watch the Food Network, Starz Western, and SciFi almost all day long if I could.

Yea, I like the SciFi.

But I have a problem about picking up Cookbooks and Magizines. I'm in love with "Taste of Home." I get all excited when the new one comes in. I'm a dork. hehe

Yea, and I forgot to say that I used to play a lot of Golf before I moved up here. And, I skiied a lot more before I moved out here as well.

I haven't been skiing once since I've been in MA. No one to go with...

I've got to agree with you there. The Mountains in VT aren't really all that big. Now, a few of the roads up and down some of these hills aren't too bad to ride your bike on, but the skiing just isn't close to world class, and I'm not a skier.

Can drinking Single Malt Whisky be considered a hobby? :) I do enjoy a good Single Malt Whisky or a nice Irish Whiskey occasionally.

For many years sea kayaking was my primary hobby; that has fallen by the wayside the last couple of years since I got back into shooting, primarily high power. My wife can't kayak too much due to tendinitis so that has also reduced the time on the water. I'm trying to find a decent balance between the two for next year.

We're both into photography, although she has a much better eye than I do. Reading, music, cooking & biking. I also used to do some camping, often on islands on kayak trips.

In the winter I do a little downhill, x-country and snowshoeing. I try to find things to enjoy outdoors all year.

As I've never been skiing in the Northeast, I can't comment. But I do love skiing the West more so than even the Rockies. I've been to some places in Montana and the like that will rivel any resort in Colorado.

And what I miss is that I was REALLY big into Mountain Biking. And I don't do that anymore as well. But again, not having anyone up here that likes to do these things, makes it hard. And things like Skiing and Mountain Biking are some things that I don't believe you should be doing alone. Skiing isn't so bad. But Mountain Biking not so much. I've taken some big falls, and if I were to break a leg or hip 4 or so miles into the woods, it might be some time before someone would find you.

So, I don't do it so much anymore.

Now when I drink Whiskey, I drink Jamison's.

Sadly, i dislike Guiness, or any other Porter or Stout. But, I do like a good German style Pilsener (Labatt's is close), and do like Harp.

WHAT!!!

What's the best thing for a human to drink, other than water?

BEER!

I just don't like Guiness, must be too much English (50%) in me, offsetting the Irish (25%). I do like Harp, though, and Killian's. Does that count for some?

C-pher said:
I guess that I'll let you slide with the Harp. But the Killians, that's just Coors. Too bad that you can't get it in the States, but if you can get your hand on some Kilkenny's, you'd be one happy man.

I take it that it's better than a Brauhaus Schweinfurt Pilsener, or a Wächtersbacher Schlossbrau Pils. Now, they're what I call good beer.
