Sounds like a Grade-B "I am the law" civil servant. Grade-B because he got caught. (no offense to the honest LEO's here)
 
for the sake of conversation, he sold department firearms, so theft by conversion, or flat out larceny of a firearm would apply here if they wanted to charge him properly.

Isn't larceny of a firearm a federal charge that he could have been hit with?
 
A few weeks back there was an article in the Walpole Times about a patrolman who stole $10K and he was allowed to retire. The next weeks paper had apologists in the LTTE section saying how he was misunderstood.......

i went through the mcjtc with him years ago (many yrs) and he was somewhat of a jerk then ........he used to joke about what cops get away with.
