Newton high school teacher put on leave after showing a student an image of a firearm

more info coming out.. although doesn't expand on "inappropriate" so who knows..

Newton Teacher Loses Job Following Complaints From Students

"He took out his phone and showed us a picture of his firearm, and he described it as a Ruger"

He was bragging about owning a Ruger? Yeah, sorry, he deserved to be fired. At least his wife was looking for a Glock. Unless he misheard her. Maybe he thought she said " I really want a black Glock in M ass" but what she really said was something entirely different.

Sounds like we have the rest of the story...
Nope. Sounds like we have another partial story that _might_ provide more context.
It was not a picture relating to education about war or muskets, or the military.
_If_ the students' account is true, yes.
The guy is toast.
Yes. No prosecution needed for a loss of a MA ̶L̶T̶C̶ LTO, after which his firearms would be confiscated. I'm guessing a mere unsubstantiated accusation is all that is required.

The teacher would have to be a complete idiot to believe there would be a point in the future in which "he could bring it to school." So I'd say it's 50/50 on the students lying.

Lot of context missing. But after reading I'm left with "WTF".. I mean if the teacher and student were just conversing about recreational shooting or whatever (all lawfull stuff) than what's the issue? This guy was a teacher of the year finalist. Now Newton students will be deprived of his superior educational skills all because some twatwaffle got upset about a gun pic? But I suppose if he had shown a tranny dick pic that would have been fine.

WTF is wrong with these people?

"He was very inappropriate throughout the entire year," said the student.

After
they spoke up, they say Antani approached them during class in late May.

"
He took out his phone and showed us a picture of his firearm, and he described it as a Ruger, and said his wife was getting a Glock and he couldn't wait until he could bring it to school," said the student, who took the image of a gun as a threat or retaliation for lodging a complaint.

Teacher was a D.A.

Showing his weapon ( pic of gun) to his accuser... AFTER .... anywhere, any sane person would consider that a "threat" .

My older daughter finished first grade earlier this month. Before she even started school, she was told not to discuss or even mention firearms outside of our home. She definitely got the message. She got good grades and kept a low profile. Essential skills in today's increasingly paranoid and hoplophobic public school environment.

If true, then this guy falls into the PSGWSP category. Eff him, he's an idiot and make the rest of us look like idiots.

I spoke with my friends' kid who's a student at Newton South. From his words, the teacher either failed or was about to fail a certain student. This student came to the teacher and started a conversation about his grandfather's gun collection somehow tricking the teacher into showing a picture of his gun when other students were around, then went and made a complaint about the teacher threatening him and/or other students. The teacher already had black marks on his record prior to this incident for socializing with students outside of school which supposedly is verboten.

Whut?

Why should a court get involved when a school fires a teacher? As long as the school follows due process, what’s the issue?

I would imagine if he felt his termination was unjustified , the next step is to sue.
Reading the article it seems like only two students complained.
Don't think the little shitbirds these days don't know which buttons to push.
If they got it in for the teacher and don't go the "He touched my pee pee. " route, the next quickest way it "Gun" .

I understand that this is all hearsay, but assuming it was true, here is my take on it...

The guy is a f***in idiot, and probably got what he deserved. I hate to turn on firearm owners, and eat our own, but unfortunately, some gun owners do more good for the anti's than for us.
Tricked by a student? About firearms? Are you shitting me? How in the ass did this meathead win "Teacher of the year?"

Socializing with students outside of school? Oh, he's a special kind of stupid. And his wife will be leaving in three.. two...one..

If that is true, fail oozes from every pore of everyone involved in these retarded acts of douchebaggery...

Nonprofessional status. Meaning, no tenure. So he’s got no leg to stand on, legally.

They could’ve let him go for his hair color. As long as they didn’t tell him, there’s nothing he can do. Legally, no matter what the newspaper says here, the school just chose not to renew a nonprofessional contract.

I understand limits... but if true as a blanket policy that is downright retarded. Sometimes teachers are the only positive influence/adult in someones life, I dunno that denying students that outright is such a great idea.

Like it or not, it is a well understood practice in that profession. Schools have doubled down on it by adding email/social networking policies that prohibit contact with students outside the schools education portal/email system.

The fear of abuse is everywhere. It now takes 4 adults to do Cub/Boy Scout activities if a younger pre-reservist must be escorted to a public restroom, since no adult can ever be alone with a minor under BSA policy. Allowing teachers to meet students 1:1 outside of school, while they are still students, is a recipe for disaster.

I agree to an extent... just seems like stranger danger taken to the nth degree. We used to have all sorts of clubs run by teachers at NNHS (back in mid 2000s). I used to go to an automotive club with a couple friends run by our science teacher in the auto shop, and we'd even go to classic car shows. That's how I got my introduction to working on cars. I'm sure it's different now.

we'd even go to classic car shows.
Huge difference between a sanctioned group school trip and private teacher/student get togethers. We used to have a teacher from Keefe Tech bring a school rifle team over to use the indoor Hopkinton range on a regular basis.

Fair... but I can't imagine in a similar hypothetical scenario this teacher showing some of us pictures of a car he was working on on his phone would have ever been a problem.

I can remember my 7th grade history teacher bringing in his scrap book from Vietnam. He was a combat marine...He said "You wanna get Charlies attention, all ya gotta say is napalm"...I still run into him. Quite a guy.

10th grade English teacher was a Marine in the early days of Vietnam and spent one class explaining the M14 and why it was a pita in the jungle. Can't see that happening now.

I can. Absolutely.

All the references to Saving Private Ryan... anyone recall what Capt. Miller did for a living before the Army? And what it took to drag that out of him?

He was an English teacher (in PA IIRC), it took Upham talking them out of killing the surviving German soldier at the radar station and several of the other soldiers threatening to leave for him to finally tell everyone of his home life, trying to diffuse the situation.
