H4102 is DEAD Congratulations all and thank you.

Everyone has called, right? No? Why?

CALL EVERYONE ON THE HOUSE WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE IMMEDIATELY!

Go take a few minute bathroom break and make some calls.
After all, if you are at work, you're reading this so you can't be THAT busy.

Emails can be ignored. Speaking to an aid takes up more of their time.

Melt the statehouse phone systems.

If you don't get someone today, leave a message AND CALL AGAIN LATER!

Call and email or roll over and take it.

Don't just talk about it.

DO SOMETHING TO HELP.

This post brought to you by a VERY pissed off Rob. Certainly not at you guys and gals, because you are fighting the good fight, but the ma.gov for trying to blatantly subvert our Constitution and Amendments.

From Representative Rice, moments ago. "Thank you for your thoughtful correspondence on this issue. Let me assure you that I have not, and will not, support any bill that would infringe upon the rights of responsible gun owners. Therefore, I will not be voting for the Governor's Gun Bill. As for H2259, I feel that this is a good piece of legislation and have already become a co-sponsor."

Please feel free to contact me should you have any additional questions or concerns.

Best,
Rep. Bob Rice

I got the following reply from Rep. Rice:

EDIT: Looks like that's his stock reply to everyone. Doesn't matter, at least he's not voting for this monstrosity.

Timilty - Didn't really have any answer/knowledge
Kane - No answer, but i'll trust his A rating with Goal will see us through.
Donelan - no answer
Rush - His secretary had no clue, aide was at lunch, and he is not goal rated
Driscoll - no answer
Sciortino - No answer
Welch - Hoal A rating, but it seems all aides are out of office early!
Speranzo - Goal A rating. Didn't really get a read from his aide.
Rice - Aide said it has not been polled on the bill. My phone died mid conversation. Sorry to the aide I spoke with.
Conroy - I'm not even calling this assclown.

An update before my cell phone died.

Read the one from Rice, she says they aren't being polled yet. GOAL can you check your sources?

I doubt Speranzo will be any help, despite his A rating. He apparently voted for the bill when it was in the judiciary committee.

Sure seems like these ratings will need to be re-evaluated this coming Fall. We've now had a chance to see their true colors when called upon to make a difficult decision.

Sannicandro- My parents rep. I promised him he'd be losing two votes if he was to vote for this bill.
Hargraves - I trust that eddiecoyle will make him aware of the issue at hand!
Jeff Perry - Do I even have to call him? He's on our side. He did not pick up the phone, but i trust he is on weekend.
Polito - No answer, but she's a republican. Let's hope she's on our side
Smola - A rated by goal, but no pickup, straight to VM.
Webster - no answer, a rated by goal.

well, i heard back from at least one rep, Bob Rice:

I received the same email from him at about 1:00PM. I don't care that it's a form letter, it's a reply that supports our positions on both bills.

Maybe, just maybe, we'll beat back 4102.

For those who are more in the know, I have one request to help people with limited time to call - could we work to identify the Reps most in need of persuading (and who have a reasonable chance of being persuaded)? I'm in a work situation where I have pretty constant access to internet/web/E-mail, so sending off E-mails is easy for me. I don't have a whole lot of time to make phone calls (as I can e-mail during a meeting but can't call on the phone), and would like to maximize the effectiveness of the calls that I do have time to make.

Just got this back from Bob Rice.

This is so stopid. This law is saying a legal gun owner can buy one gun a month. but a criminale can go and buy 15 guns from the back of a car trunk without the goverment knowing till that person shoots someone with those illgeal gun purchases.

Don't you know that this bill fixes that too by requiring all private face-to-face sales to go through a dealer and be subject to a MIRCS check. Gang-bangers would have to then get their guns through a dealer.

[rofl][rofl][rofl]Sorry joey, I just can't say that with a straight face. You're spot on, it's just that the 1-gun-a-month restriction is IMNSHO the least odious crap in that bill.

Actually, it doesn't and it can't. If you're a felon who is barred from owning weapons, or you've purchased more than one per month (which is a felony), the State cannot require you to go through any process that would report such purchases to the State or Federal government. Requiring you to do so is a requirement for self-incrimination, which violates your constitutional rights after all. So literally these laws are only required of law-abiding citizens. Ain't law grand?

Ok done once again.

a couple of random thoughts

1) how can ANY of them claim no knowledge of this? we have been contacting them for what feels like forever!!

2) does it really do any good if it is the same group of people contacting them over and over and over? they must know us by heart and/or have a list like we have of them.

3) we should not have to do this every 3 days or so [angry][frown][sad]

Rep. Bob Ric [/QUOTE]

Class Acts the two of them. Anyone voting for the Governors bill is going to see people running against them get my financial support!

I took a quick look at goal's ratings and over half the committee is rated B or higher. Approx. 14 A's and 3 B's. A number of the ways and means members aren't ranked, probably because they're not running for reelection.

I fired off some e-mails. I don't expect a response since my rep isn't on ways and means. They'll keep hearing from me regardless.

The GOAL ratings don't mean a whole lot when it comes to this sort of thing. Basically, it shows a past voting record. There is NO INDICATION that even an A+ rated member would STEP FORWARD and put it all on the line for our cause, though there are a few exceptions. This is where we need to persuade them to come to bat for us, and ACTIVELY pursue the right course of action.

Ok done once again.

1) No kidding!
2) I imagine it helps. The other side is doing it, and we need higher numbers than them. I bet they have lists of both sides.
3) see #2 reply

WEEKLY ROUNDUP: ELEVATED TEMPERATURES
Recap and analysis of the week in state government

By Jim O'Sullivan
STATE HOUSE NEWS SERVICE

STATE HOUSE, BOSTON, JULY 9, 2010……..Expiring-clock reflections while waiting for that video of Steve Grossman shaking it at the convention to pop up on YouTube and wondering what sort of endorsement deal Tim Murray could command with Gatorade if he keeps humping the discovery that hydration is good for you.

With three weeks to go before formal business ends in the Legislature until the 187th General Court breezes in next January, the average Massachusetts resident's life could change in the following ways: his/her health insurance costs could stop rising so quickly, criminal records could be accessible to more prospective employers but for shorter periods of time, gun purchases could be limited to one per month (but probably not), postpartum depression could receive some policy alleviation, and Electoral College juice could be pledged to the next winner of the presidential popular vote. Those, along with, yes, a gambling bill, comprise the docket between now and July 31, midnight.

Or Bob DeLeo could take his ball and go home, and let none of this pass.

That could be the nihilistic end game if the Senate and governor don't budge from their opposition to the two-casino, four-racino plan the speaker favors. If there's some middle ground, it is a long way both from that bill and from the Senate's, which permits three casinos and nothing more.

"It's not even close," said one lawmaker closely observing the dance.

Roundup remorse: The Roundup incorrectly implied last week that DeLeo was thrilled with a pair of amendments in the Senate that raised the Suffolk Downs stock in the casino licensing sweepstakes significantly. While this may be true on a deep-down level, DeLeo is nine kinds of ticked off with Suffolk and Sen. Anthony Petruccelli for tucking changes into the bill that give the East Boston-Revere axis some pretty serious pole position in the licensing scramble.

When you're the guy who takes over from Sal DiMasi, you tend to be a little sensitive about these things.

Worse for the speaker, Suffolk splashed its casino plans Tuesday. How's this for luck? The guy who's spent his whole career pushing for, along with water and sewer rate relief around Greater Boston, slots at the tracks finally gets the House to approve them, then the very day you're trying to wire the conference committee to get where you need it to get, the guys whose water you've been carrying are leaking word that's not enough, not really what they want at all.

DeLeo's a pretty easygoing guy, most of the time, but the Suffolk leg-showing and Gov. Deval Patrick's disparagement Wednesday of racinos as "no-bid" giveaways and Senate President Therese Murray's concurrence with the governor, sent the eyes behind those low-sitting glasses rolling into the back of his head and by Thursday afternoon he came up just shy of threatening his own form of veto, calling Patrick's and Murray's priorities "intertwined" with slots. "Intertwined," in the Winthrop dialect of speakerese, translates roughly as "step the bleep off."
