Thank you for expressing your concern in regards to House Bill 4102, “An Act to Reduce Firearm Violence”.



This Bill was referred to and currently stands in the House Committee on Ways and Means, of which I am a ranking member.



In essence, this bill provides excess regulations to already lawful gun owners and fails to do much to “reduce gun violence”. I therefore am in opposition with this bill and plan to do all that I can to vote it down in committee. On the other hand, I believe that H.2259 “An Act Relative to Civil Rights and Public Safety Solutions,” clearly separates the lawful possession issues and criminal enforcement needs. I plan on supporting this bill if it comes to a vote.



Again, I appreciate you taking the time to inform me of your opinion on this matter, and I urge you to continue informing me of your views on any and all future legislation.

Thank you for contacting me about your perspective regarding gun control legislation. I always appreciate hearing from concerned citizens.

As you may know, the Joint committee on the Judiciary recommended favorable action on House Bill H4102 and referred the bill to the House Committee on Ways and Means on June 28 2010. Also, House Bill H2259 remains with the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. I am concerned about any bill that unnecessarily infringes on the rights of lawful gun owners when our focus should be on people who use guns illegally and in the commission of crimes. Please know that if either bill should come before the Senate I will keep your thoughts in mind.
