H4102 is DEAD Congratulations all and thank you.

It is working, the bill would have been passed had no one called. That's not to say that it still might not pass, the libs are using every trick in their books to try and ram it through.

Having a rally is not without risk. If there is a poor showing, they will use that against us. Even if there was a very good showing, the media would not cover it. Twist and spin, it's what they do. It's all they have. Don't give them the ammo.
I'm almost of the mind to wish it did pass so we could then fight the unconstitutionality of it. Nothing will ever get better until many of these BS laws are unwound and challenged.

The anti's will never stop, they won't be happy till only criminals have guns. They don't live in reality. I know, broken record/preaching to the choir. I just needed to say it.

Actually I'm not concerned with the media too much right now, i would rather be getting the message out to the people who probably have not even heard of this bill and what it really does.

we would need to organize the rally with other sites where a lot of ma gun owners visit and make sure, well as much as we can, that it would be a good turn out. get people to commit to it. but like i said it's too late to get that all together now. I wish i had thought of it earlier.

The whole purpose behind my large annoying posts is to get NEW people to call, not the same ones. What do you think this is? An ACORN sponsored vote early vote often presidential election?

Rallies and the like are useless and counter productive unless we can get TONS of people to join in. Most of us have jobs, unlike the stay at home anti-gun soccer moms and Prius driving snotty libtards who have nothing better to do than swoon at anything Sir Patrick the Useless puts out.

We need to target the legislators who actually make the final call, not the 'people' who have no say in the matter. This is not a ballot question.

One never knows how this would work due to the FUDD factor, but perhaps people should contact their sportsman's club and ask the BOD or powers-that-be to put something out to the members. Word needs to be spread about this. People need to get motivated to do something. This should have been happening all along but alas, GOAL can can only do so much.

I hope everyone that has posted in this thread is a GOAL member. If not, why not?

yes most people work, that is why i mentioned Saturday's

I disagree that it is useless. if we put out the right message we could get OTHER people to call and em, not just us. our problem would be making sure enough people turn out.

I agree about getting people at our clubs to call.

What I mean to say is a rally at this stage is a tough to do unless we gets TONS of people, enough so to make the news. I really doubt that can happen. I'm not being pessimistic, just realistic. Even then, it will take days if not more for the word to trickle into people's heads that this is a big deal and by that time it will either be voted upon or the session will end and we will have to do this all over again. We have 2'ish weeks or less, not months.

I agree. thats why i said it's too late now. we need to think ahead.

The other side seems to have information that we're not privy too, which makes it easier to plan an attack when it might have the greatest impact (such as a rally or viewing a propaganda video at a critical juncture in the process). Terra mentioned this before as one of the many tricks used by 'our' politicians.

So far have recieved the following, Canessa is my Rep.

Hi XXXX, thank you for your email regarding HB2259 and HB4102. I am a co-sponsor of HB2259 and I will continue to work with my colleagues to improve our state’s firearms laws for legal, law-abiding gun owners. I also have some concerns regarding HB4102 as it is currently written; I agree, our state’s laws should target those who are in possession of a firearm illegally. I will certainly keep your thoughts and views in mind if either bill comes before us for a vote in the House.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me on these issues and please continue to do so if I can ever be of any assistance to you.
Sincerely,
Steve Canessa

Thanks for your email. I agree 100% .

PS: I am a sponsor of H2559

Dear Mr. XXXX
Thank you for your thoughtful correspondence on this issue. Let me assure you that I have not, and will not, support any bill that would infringe upon the rights of responsible gun owners. Therefore, I will not be voting for the Governor’s Gun Bill. As for H2259, I feel that this is a good piece of legislation and have already become a co-sponsor.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any additional questions or concerns.
Best,
Rep. Bob Rice

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for your email. Please know I do not support H. 4102 and will oppose it moving forward.
Michael Roderigues

I am opposed to the bill and I am a licensed gun owner.

I obviously need to update my list given the response posted. It's good to see some people are very very opposed.

Anyone get anything from a Rep saying they are FOR this pos bill?

*edited to reflect GOAL's request for a holding pattern on calls, emails, etc*

Good news! Got an email response from Rep. Pam Richardson today. She confirmed that she has been contacted by "numerous constituents" on this and is not planning on voting in favor of H.4102!

By my count 11 members of the House Ways and Means Committee has said they are opposed to 4102. Add to that 7 additional members who are rated "A" or better by GOAL whose responses have not been reported here gives 18 out of 31 members opposed. Keep up the pressure to be sure.

Has anyone heard from Reps. Webster, L'Italien, Koczera, Kane, Welch, Speranzo, or deMacedo? They're rated "A" or "A+" by GOAL but I did not see their position reported by anyone in this thread (could have missed it.) Thanks.

is 'not voting for' and 'actively opposing' the same thing?

'not voting for' could just mean they won't vote at all?

L'Italien is North Andover's Rep so I'm not sure how she gets A+. I wrote to her many times when I was acquiring my LTC and she never responded.

She represents Georgetown too. Phone calls, letters, and emails to her have all been ignored. She is less than useless!

I stopped in at the GOAL office late this afternoon, and Jon told me that Jim is camping out at the State House. Jon said that the Congressmen pass him every time they enter and exit the chamber, and that he is keeping the pressure on.

Thanks Jim, Jon, and GOAL for your efforts on our behalf. And thanks for all of you who are keeping the legislators' phones busy!

That's been my experience as well...I hope there are some serious adjustments to these ratings at the end of this session.

Thanks to Jim and the folks at Goal for the full court press.

I have been receiving a daily news feed from the State House news service and H4102 hasn't come up in a couple weeks. I hope the casino bill keeps them distracted enough to let this one sleep.....for now. I also haven't read anything about H2259 either.

Couple of things.

1. We have been getting many inquiries about the ratings of our legislators. They will all be reviewed after the current legislative session concludes. Expect some adjustments.

2. Bump, please see original post.

At this point we would like to ask everyone to hold off on contacting the legislators in regards to this bill, and our "Civil Rights and Public Safety" Bill H.2259. We have pretty much saturated our legislators to the point that it could become detrimental, at this time, to continue.

Well, if they didn't want to get hammered by their constituents on the issues, they should have tried listening to us before, like, say, when we told them to roll back the income tax to 5% in 2000. Since we know they're not listening, it just means that we need to SHOUT!!! Repeatedly.

So that they finally get the clue.

Nah, even shouting in their ear won't change them. We have to change bodies. Vote 'em out!

we'll have to take a look at their voting records and then vote them out. I don't want to
be an overbearing PITA but i have to agree with Dwarven, until they get it they won't get it.

The one thing that really gets me is "i do not want them to vote what best for me or us in this
case" PLEASE be assured we will tell you. or else

Gov. Patrick’s gun bill. Speaker DeLeo said weeks ago that Gov. Deval Patrick’s gun bill, which includes a provision limiting purchases to one a month, would be debated by the House. On Friday, a DeLeo spokesman, asked if the debate would occur next week, said the bill “is still under consideration.”

Couple of things.

2. Bump, please see original post.

Need to adjust the title from "July 8th 4:30 pm update. please see OP" to something more current.

Be ready. They are sneaky and will attempt to get this in at the last minute.

All of this ratings talk got me thinking about our Peabody Rep Joyce A. Spilotis Rated "A" by Goal. Sent her an email for her past good judgment on some of this crap legislation.

Hope her rating stays that way.

STATE HOUSE, BOSTON, JULY 26, 2010..

One top priority Patrick did not mention as a late-session hopeful was his anti-gun bill, restricting purchases to one per month. DeLeo had said repeatedly earlier in the year the bill would see the House floor, a debate that appears increasingly unlikely as the July 31 end of formal sessions loom.

“I think his members are feeling the pressure from the gun lobby, frankly,” Patrick said.
