H4102 is DEAD Congratulations all and thank you.

While I was out shooting, Rep. Barry Finegold called and personally told my wife to pass along, to me, the message that H4102 is being set aside and will not come up for a vote. Finegold is running for a State Senate seat this time around. I know that GOAL rates him a B but he did vote to send 4102 back to committee after it had initially come out as not recommended. So, I guess he's not really one of us. I'm voting for Jamison Tomasek, Republican, in the primary.

This was not voted on right? Am I missing something?[/STRIKE]

I just read about it in another post. I guess I was missing something.[grin]

bump, see OP for statement from Jim Wallace

Thank you everyone for helping us defend freedom!

Just a note about this bill. Like any bill, H.4102 could still come back in "informal session" over the summer. This is not likely to happen however as it would take only one vote against to sink it forever into the abyss.

Thanks so much. I just shouted yay enough to make the girlfriend come in and ask what made me so excited. Everything GOAL does is so appreciated by me! Also good job to all the other NESers for calling and writing!

I was hoping S1580 would pass but the interest just seemed to die. We could use something like it to protect ourselves from frivolous lawsuits in a lawful shooting. There seemed to be a strong concensus that the bill was a good one. Why did it languish in committee?

Might not be a bad idea, now that the session is over, to call your rep and thank him or her for making sure a stake got driven through the heart of H4102. I did.

I think some thanks are also due for Derek. I suspect that a significant proportion of the GOAL members who contacted their legislators concerning this bill were NES members. NES gives GOAL an effective channel for communicating with its most active members. 15 years ago it would have been significantly harder to reach MA gun owners in a timely and efficient fashion.

Good point. Conversely, we need to make sure the ones that sent this back to committee or otherwise voted in favor of H4102 are remembered and rated appropriately by GOAL.

My rep (Katherine Clark) effectively voted in favor of H4102 but has not yet received a GOAL rating.

Thank you to Jim, Jon, Mike and the crew at GOAL. Thanks also to Derek, Jim, and the activists here on NES.

Your efforts have helped all of us, and you have shown us how (and when) we can help.

I agree, and the more we do it, the better at it we get! Huge thanks from me to Derek and GOAL.

[sarcasm]Wow, we engaged the legislature, we won on the merits and didn't have an armed revolution. Shocking. [/sarcasm]

We have won this battle, but not the war. Yet. Until the fall, we wait.

Nicely done GOAL and everyone who did their part. Shame on those that didn't.

Defeat is the springboard to victory. Victory is the ladder to further victory.

We must keep the politicians engaged, and we must not go away. They're out pressing the flesh, and we must press our point to both the ones running for re-election, and those trying to get in for the first time. There are a lot of local summer-time events (in Framingham there is a weekly Concert on the Village Green) and those attract pols the way donut shops attract me!

When they come to ask for your support, tell them that we want theirs.

What was that quote about etenal vigilance?

And, thanks to all of the GOAL crew, and everyone here who did thier part.

Side note- I went to the statehouse with my kid's class, and saw Jim there, hard at work! [grin]

Thanks to Baby Jesus! Also many thanks to Jim, Jon, Mike & everyone at GOAL, thanks to Derek and everyone at NES who worked to make it happen.

When you put it like that, it doesn't sound like nearly as much fun. [wink]

thanks goal. thanks derek. thanks to all NESers who took the time to make the calls and send emails and snail mail. may the tide keep turning towards us.

What's this crap I read on line (WHDH) that they're contemplating reconvening to try to pass the casino bill ?? If they manage this, what else could they do?

The only hope I guess is that our hacks are too lazy to get a two-thirds vote to go back to work.
