H4102 is DEAD Congratulations all and thank you.

Responses came in from:

Senator Jennifer L. Flanagan
Representative Robert L. Rice, Jr.

Neither are in support of 4102 according to their e-mail.

I got that also.

Here is what I sent back:

You have no idea who Mike Moore is, do you?

Here's a hint:
He spoke at GOAL's Banquet Saturday night. I can guarantee you that he's on the same page as GOAL and George Peterson (who sponsored the bill for GOAL).

Actually, I do have a slight inkling. He also spoke at my club. He has always been responsive and attentive to our cause. That doesn't mean I've seen quotes from the paper where he is outspoken on RKBA issues. He always votes the right way, but I was hoping for some more strong moving forward type activity like Peterson and Brewer often espoouse. Those guys are getting older, and we need some newer "young blood" to carry that torch once they retire.

Woo that was a fun half hour. Here's a break down:

Senator Baddour abstained in the earlier vote but is AGAINST this bill after speaking with one of his aides. His aide was very supportive.
Senator Hart voted in favor of it in the previous vote. I could not get a reason frmo the phone rep as to why he voted this way.
Senator McGee voted in favor in the previous vote. Aide said this was a "public safety concern"
Senator tarr is opposed. A blessing on his home.
Rep O'Flaherty's office knew the number before I even had to say it! But no idea what his position is, but we're making a dent folks!
Rep Speranzo did not pick up the phone at the state house. They also did not pick up at their district office.
Rep Fagan is opposed. May he see many reelections.
Rep Garry has told the chairman that she is opposed to this bill. May she continue to uphold the constitution of these united states.
Rep St. Fleur did not pick up
Rep clark did not pick up
Rep Gregoire is supposedly opposed with the bill. She felt that it was punishing law abiding gun owners. Good for her.
Rep Dwyer is against it. He will vote no for this bill if it comes back. Good for him.
Rep Fernandes did not pick up.
6-5 vote in favor from a 15-member committee. Who abstained?
As I read the numbers Someone, or ones, is lying!

Also interesting is that Speranzo is rated "A" and O'Flaherty and Fernandes are rated "B" by GOAL yet all 3 of them had no position when called and apparently at least abstained.
[grenade]

I have a few questions about this legislation and the hearing, for Jim and anyone else who might be interested:

Can I speak at the hearing if I am not a US citizen (yet)?

If I was to speak, I have two ideas. One would be to present the scientific research on one-gun-a-month laws, which shows that they have no effect. I do scientific research for a living, although not in that field, so I might have some credibility. Another possibility is to go after the prohibition on FA-10 transfers. This seems to me to be a no-brainer, as you are already limited to 4 (but you can buy 12 guns) and they are reported to the state. There is probably research published on this as well. Recommendations?

Do you think there is a chance of getting the FA-10 provision taken out, even if the whole bill is passed? It seems that media attention is focused on one-gun-a-month and machineguns for kids, so the pols might be willing to compromise on this.

I doubt the bill will be changed at all if it goes through and driving people to dealers is intended to just make it hard for people and to improve the state's record keeping. But, the requirement when taken with the EOPPS list and the AG Regs potentially raises the interesting constitutional question of 'taking'. If you cannot sell or transfer your otherwise legally owned handguns because it is illegal for a dealer to do so, the state has effectively seized your property.

There most likely will not be a public hearing. The best way to be heard is to visit your Rep/Senator in person.

Good point, +1 to you.
Nobody would be able to buy used non-EOPS list (unless documented in state before 98) /AG approved guns. You would have to sell them out of state.
Another way for them to rid the state of guns.

Another of the goofier features of this is the one gun or magazine a month provision. Given that, I don't see where you can even give lip service to this being reasonable, though there are some who are totally up-front about preferring a complete ban and who don't care.

No offense to you at all, but I do not want non-US citizens being able to influence matters in this country. Whether you agree with what I am for or not.

I hope that you do become a US citizen, and wish you the best of luck, and hope that you will continue to support the right things. I, for one, want the kind of people that you sound like you are to be citizens of this country. However, until then, it wouldn't be right.

Not only that, but the provision applies to 'renting'. Does that mean a place like AFS can only let you try one gun a month??????

Message received from Bradley Jones - 20th Middlesex District:

Oppose H4102, support H2259

Again, if you get the chance, ask Bradley Jones to FIGHT FOR 2259 and ACTIVELY OPPOSE and URGE OTHER LEGISLATORS TO DO THE SAME for 4102. We need to take the fight to Beacon Hill, not just a passive thumbs up or down. We need some OOMPH in our legislators' voices!

I agree....he's actually a co-sponsor of the bill [wink] I didn't check until after posting his reply.

GOAL Executive Director Jim Wallace will be speaking to a national Sirius Radio audience tonight @10:20 pm about H.4102 with Cam Edwards of "Cam & Company" fame.

Listen in for free on NRANews.com

More good news. My reply from Rep. Guyer - Berkshire County:

Mr. XXXXXXXX,
I am opposed to H4102. I have long been a supporter of gun-owner rights, and I will support H2259.
Thanks,

DENIS E. GUYER
State Representative
Second Berkshire District

I think it's starting to catch on...

i called Gregoire and Eldridge yesterday, neither were there.

Its my understanding that Gregoire is opposed and that Eldridge is rated A+ by GOAL..

Makes no difference to me i called anyway i left a phone number
but don't expect to hear back from them.

Looking for a little help here. Can someone explain to me why I don’t see or hear any Representative who is against H.4102 on TV, in the newspaper, on the radio explaining to the citizens of Ma why this is a bad bill and what it really will do? I just finished reading Goals’ line by line analysis of H.4102 to me it doesn’t matter if you are a shooter or not, ANYONE with a little common sense can understand this bill is useless.
We all (have you?) have called and sent email to our Representatives but that isn’t going to stop this bill. We need to get the word out to the general population. We need to put not only pressure from the gun owners but also from the general public to tell our elected officials that we are watching and we DO know what they are doing, today the gun owners tomorrow it could be you! At the end of the day if the bill passes then Gov Patrick will use it to his advantage during this election, shouldn’t the members that oppose H.4102 try to show this is not a victory for him? Shouldn’t OUR Reps be out there screaming that this is not about gun rights but about limiting our freedoms?

Stepping off my soapbox, thanks for listening.

The Governor had a lobby day yesterday at the State House on behalf of his bill. I've heard from a number of sources that less than a dozen people showed up. Apparently the public at large hasn't received the "if we don't pass this bill the streets will run red with the blood of children" memo.

I hope that this was a rethorical question. [thinking]

Because even those who understand what's wrong with it know its hard to even get into the press with this message and even if you do, you have to compete with sound bites from the Governor that people don't require any evidence to believe. The Governor's words feed into the mental illness that so many suffer in their denial of reality on this topic.

So, coming into election season, they aren't going to take the risk...
