Gun Safes

These come into stock in Berlin from time to time (good seller) - I scored mine on sale an burning my $486 in club points it cost me less than $100. I liked that I could move it on my appliance dolly and no one knows it's here.

Don't forget a layered approach as well.

Whole house alarm - all access points monitored with added motion and glass breaks where needed and should include a fire detection system; all monitored with a smart dialer that displays zone for the alarm company. They also sell a Safe-Alert from Liberty that monitors the door, movement, temp and humidity and connects via wifi.

Ive been dragging my feet for months now on a safe purchase. Ive reasearched and checked out all the big stores, basspro, cabelas, tractor supply etc. I finally just stopped in to check out eastern security in mendon. They were great to talk to (Brian I think) and ive pretty much settled on getting one of their house brand "sportsman" safes. I actually proposed a group buy here. If we get a little more interest I'll approach ESS to see if it's something they'd like to do.

I purchased mine they Eastern Security in Mendon MA. Easy people, very understanding, great customer service and said they'd deliver on a certain date and they did just that. They put up with me poking they there stuff at least 6-8 times and answered all my questions without guff.

When I was setting up shop, I dealt with Eastern Security Safe too. Nice place they have down in Mendon. I picked out a total behemoth (Superior Untouchable UT55), struck a deal with them, and they delivered it professionally and on time.

You get what you pay for.

One of these inside or outside of the locked closet, and/or inside the $100 Walmart box, Job Box, or pickup box standing upright.

I have a similar safe. These are GSA certified to store up to TS materials. Mine is a 4 drawer. There are space limitation issues for rifles, but I make it work:

Lateral Fireking Cabinets with the lockbars also work well for longer items. They're around 500lbs per two drawer.

If it's going in a closet you may want to look at these too. http://www.tacrak.com/

Nice rack at a decent price for more immediate access and display at special family get together's and holidays. The liberal in-laws go BS when I do that. The 44 mag under the throw pillow on the couch also works well when they investigate what that bump is!

For just storage the jobbox, truckbox, and file cabinets with items in silicone socks/cases and the OC gas is very effective for high density storage.

Oh man if my family members saw that rack with my "dangerous military weapons" they'd have a heart attack. The vast majority of them are anti gun. They'd act like yours. I'm the black sheep I guess.

I just remembered there are door panel organizers out there so that's some additional storage for mags and handguns if I go that route.

RSC are not "real safes" (you'd never get an insurance company to accept an RSC as your safe in a jewelery store), but come in a wide variety ranging to "tin can" to "not bad".

I know a couple of people who were burgled who had lower end RSCs. In both cases, the RSC prevented the stuff from getting taken (except the 1911 one owner left on top of his safe - not MA, and many years ago, so safe storage was not an issue). A third friend had his 1911 and Colt Detective Special taken in a burglary that involved such a cursory search that some other guns were missed, and evidence suggests the miscreants were in his condo for seconds rather than minutes. I am confident a low end RSC would have saved his guns.

So, don't jump to the conclusion "I can't afford $7K for the Liberty TL30 safe or $10K for a Grafunder TL30, so I might as well not get anything".

Above all, pay most attention to the thickness of the steel rather than the number of bolts, or whatever fancy trade name the vendor assigns to its hardplate.

You get the wall and floor model on the opposite wall from where they walk in so you can get their BP up right from the start.[laugh] I think he was putting them in a closet.

I was looking at Winchester safes in person actually. Sportsman's Den in Quincy has them. They sparked my interest....

If you decide to go with one, take the door off when you are trying to get it into your house... it just lifts off the hinges and makes it lighter and easier to maneuver. Rented an open utility trailer and appliance dolly from UHaul and got a friend to help me. If you've ever moved a fridge, it's about the same... Do yourself a favor and change out the electronic lock to a manual dial lock BEFORE using the safe.

I could have bought a safe from almost anywhere. Eastern Security delivers both the safe and outstanding customer service. Zach was the guy for intenet sales and was putting together group buys.

Go to Mendon for a learning experience.
